Right, we can all discuss how awful the ncaa is and all the mistakes it's made until we're blue in the face.

But the fact is, that created a well oiled infrastructure of boosters, donations, bribes, etc. that doesn't exist ANYWHERE else. The Lakers can't go to Jack Nicholson asking for a donation to build a new hall of fame, nor can they ask Leonardo dicaprio to put LeBron in a movie for a $15 million cameo as a way to get around salary cap restrictions....but that's essentially what we have and is currently happening in college sports.

And it’s just going to take some time for things to settle. Because the NCAA aggressively, arrogantly failed to plan for any of this, all of this shit is hitting the fan at once. It’s very messy!

and/or back before these attempts to "Make financials public/transparent?"

is it that you just didn't want to hear about it? if an amateur sport requires all the "professional" elements to be prohibited (read: kept under the table), is it really an amateur sport?

Ask yourself the same thing. Does hearing about it make it better?

Does 'transparency' make bribes more fun?

Also, this whole, student athletes couldn't go make millions of dollars on their own and still play seems very similar to a lot of Republican arguments about transgenders. These are things that are very rare, but we want to legislate for everyone based on these rare exceptions.

If a player could get a role in a movie, based on his acting talents, of course he should be allowed to remain eligible. You could address these things individually as they happen. They're incredibly rare.

Ok, so we’ve established that movies are ok.

So, a college basketball player would be cool to get $2mm to reprise Kareem’s role in an Airplane remake?

Or would that fail, because the player would be cast for his NIL, not his acting talent?

It’s four or fewer years where the rules seem odd to some but you’re 18-24. Choose whether your priority now is to learn or to make money.

Another idea would be to put all of the tournament money in a fund for the athletes on each of the 64 teams. Because the NCAA is so pure.

nearly all of the $1Billion revenue the NCAA generates comes from March Madness and most gets paid back out to the universities that participated. it doesn't seem that this would be worthwhile for the Creightons and Xaviers of the world if they aren't getting that money. ultimately that would lead to a much less interesting/competitive/etc. outcome.
