I will add, as I did several times in the F the NCAA thread, a majority of D1 athletes are doing it primarily for the love of the game and the value of a scholarship to a school.

I would not be comfortable with NIL rights being asigned to the University because I do not think the Universities would pay all of it out to the players. And if they kept some for themselves I would feel like they were exploiting the players for financial gain. And I think that's exactly what they would do.

I do not think the Universities have any business in a players NIL rights. Legally or moraly.

i would love to see into the future 4-5 years from now. to see how much the top kids can earn in their 4-5 year semiprocollegiateathleticslike career. 7? 8 figures?

Of course I agree with you. I'm interested in the views of those who think college basketball is now dead.

i’m sure playing for a particular university does nothing to improve NIL value
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

I'm sure the demographics of one's IG followers does nothing to improve the value of sponsored content.

Of course it does. But the players have to be invited to that school. Nobody is forcing colleges to accept these athletes with NIL aspirations. The schools control who is on their team and can change their mind at any time for any reason.

I think that is nearly impossible to do with so many athletes across so many very different sports landscapes. Could potentially create as many issues and it would solve.

I was not all the way serious on that, but I do think courts will increasingly see student athletes as having employee rights.

I think NIL is going to practically make much of the push for pay-for-play moot for a good period of time, and it will be awhile before we see talks of CBA('s).

“ push for pay-for-play moot”

Because NIL is a thinly disguised version of it.

On this we agree. It would have been much better for the NCAA to honestly confront the issues as presented, rather than try - AGAIN - to shove everything through dumb, ambiguous Rules.

Hunter #1.
After that I like the Missouri State kid.
Same.

Wish we could get some clarity on Jalen. I don't think anyone is going to tell CB that he has no shot at the 1st Round.
I mean, I'll lie to him, if that will help.
Tell him the truth. That should in theory get him back to KU.

The Athletic does not have Jalen Wilson listed among its top 100 draft prospects.

He must really hate college. Or he is very impatient. He should relax and let his game develop at the college level. He isn't remotely close to NBA ready.

He’s doing exactly what he should be doing.

It's fine to declare, that's not what I mean. But he's not likely to get to invited to any pre draft stuff if he's not projected top 100. So it's sort of a pointless declaration.
