Conference Realignment..?
Re: Conference Realignment..?
we will continue to be the best basketball conference. that won't change.
and we will continue to be 2nd, 3rd or 4th best football conference. depending on the year.
subtracting ou and tejass. adding byu, houston, cincy and ucf. does not hurt the conferences on field performance at all.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
OU has all 4 of the Big 12's CFP appearances. UT is a football brand beast. This feels like when the Big East teams said "well at least we're still a Top 6 conference in football!"
Basketball in a little better shape, but UT is poised to have a great decade, I'd even be willing to bet a natty, with Beard at the helm.
But I knew that the argument would stop after football and men's basketball, and it absolutely should not. UT was by far the brightest academic star of the Big 12. And then both OU and UT are national championship contenders in many non-revenue sports.
A death knell for the Big 12 as an elite major conference--no reason to pretend it's not. Get KU to B1G.

Is there anything weirder than this “I’m so butt hurt that the best schools/programs are leaving my conference that I’m going to act like it’s no big deal” stance?

it’s hilarious and sad that people don’t see it this wayCrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 11:56 am A death knell for the Big 12 as an elite major conference--no reason to pretend it's not. Get KU to B1G.
i mean, i could understand the willful ignorance from taters and the like, but from KU fans? odd
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Conference Realignment..?
Cincy was most recently in the CFP.
UCF potentially got screwed out of 2 CFP appearances.
Could argue Houston as well.
Three of our additions have been in the mix for the 'final four' ( UCF was 12-0 twice ) at least once since the playoff started.
Has Texas?

It's right in line with MICH's typical grumpy contrarianism. If the majority of the board agreed that water is wet, MICH would yell at the clouds saying it is not.Cascadia wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 12:06 pmCrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 11:56 am OU has all 4 of the Big 12's CFP appearances. Re: Conference Realignment..?
Late to the party -- somebody please educate me -- what makes us think that the BIG is looking to extend offers (to us or any other school?). Am I oblivious to some new development?
If they're not, I still don't think there's any particular reason to grab a lifejacket. Where the league is right now and what the landscape is right now isn't necessarily where things will be in ten or 20 years. Sorry my hair's not on fire. But, as noted, that could change...
What is curious to me is that so many seem to give ESPN a pass for their manipulation of the structure of the league(s).

Defense mechanism. If KU had a B1G invite in hand, KU fans would be shitting all over the schools that the Big 12 added--whom are terrible and in on way reflect the type of most of the original Big 8/12 schools.KUTradition wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 12:07 pmit’s hilarious and sad that people don’t see it this wayCrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 11:56 am A death knell for the Big 12 as an elite major conference--no reason to pretend it's not. And forget nostalgia, the Big 8 is long gone for KU/KSU/ISU/OSU fans.

It's all rumors and speculation, but granted, that's how all conference realignment talk starts and gigantic conference shifts have occurred.ChalkRocker wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 12:11 pm Late to the party -- somebody please educate me -- what makes us think that the BIG is looking to extend offers (to us or any other school?). The latest rumors I have read are that both, and at least, the Pac-12 and B1G want to expand to several time zones, with B1G being interested in schools as far west as USC whom does not have to go through the CA Board of Regents.
To your point about the landscape being different later, that is why I always want to be tied to the traditional power schools. The Michigan and Ohio State's. Not the commuter/city Houston's and Cincinnati's.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
Oh yea, this conference realignment sucks as hard as Scott Drew.
Just another shitty part of making as much $$ as possible - age old rivalries ruined.
But also, let's not pretend that the schools we are adding havent been successful in both football and basketball over the last few years.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
I would agree it is 5th best, but that just feels like such shaky ground when the entire trend has been towards the 4 major "regional" conferences leaving NCAA and doing their own thing.

Speaking of people coming to grips with things...it might be time for some around here to come to grips with the fact that it's entirely possible the Big10 won't be interested in expansion any time soon.
I am not going to call our conference trash when we haven't lost our position. Still better than BigEast.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
with the big 10 you go a step backwards in basketball. and a step sideways in football.
Re: Conference Realignment..?
I agree. Big10 would be great. I hope it happens, but I am not holding my breath.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 12:19 pmI would agree it is 5th best, but that just feels like such shaky ground when the entire trend has been towards the 4 major "regional" conferences leaving NCAA and doing their own thing.
In the mean time I will be excited for our new additions because that's the situation we are in.

I think:
You go a big step forwards in football.
And a small step back in basketball.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
Not true. And highlights the problem of evaluating it as a snapshot in time. The move will be decades-long if not permanent.
The biggest thing, though, is that you can't look at it and say what does the B1G look like + Kansas? Any scenario where KU goes B1G or Pac includes at least 16 schools in the new conference.

You should do whatever you want. KUAI, though, should and are doing what it can to be in the best conference possible.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 12:22 pmI agree. Big10 would be great.
