Re: Transfer portal 2022
Looks like Jesse Newell is transferring from the Jayhawks to the Chiefs. That's too bad selfishly - I really like Jesse's work, and don't really like football that much.
Re: Transfer portal 2022
Jesse has stuck around enough to where I enjoy his stuff. Dotcom he had to deal with the message boreds.
Re: Transfer portal 2022
I'm surprised Matthew Mayer is transferring out of Baylor...maybe he finally came to the realization that his coach sucks.

Gross.

But gives a better ( gross ) valuation of what a kid like Nigel Pack should be getting ( under 30k ) as opposed to 800k.

TikTok influencer, apparently.
That ranking looks to be a valuation solely on social media followers.
Re: Transfer portal 2022
Incorrect.
Re: Transfer portal 2022
So…a proprietary (opaque) algorithm spits out a “better … valuation” of a player’s worth to a third party (what he “should be getting” from a third party) than what the player and a third party agreed?pdub wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 11:48 am Gross.

How nice for the player.
Re: Transfer portal 2022
The numbers match closer to what might be in line with other influencers.
The point i'm trying to make is not that amateur players should be getting paid this kind of money ( i don't think they should be paid if they want to play college sports via NIL ) via NIL but more that the numbers we are seeing are pay for play and not pay for brand publicity/awareness/growth.
Also, the fact that there are rankings, for NIL contracts, of college athletes, for $$ they can make, is also a point i'm trying to make. Soon college will be on spotrac.

Re: Transfer portal 2022
Any dipshit can create a list and call it a "ranking". Welcome to the internet.
That ranking list has as much value as a fan-created mock draft.

Re: Transfer portal 2022
Perhaps.
Or perhaps they have hired or contracted people who work in the social media/advertising field to help come up with those evals.
Believe it or not, it's an actual business.
I work in the field ( not my main job but have been part of several campaigns where I hear the numbers ) and have my clients have partnered with influencers and companies that help connect you with said influencers and I can tell you that Pack and Tshiebwe aren't getting that money to bring that value to the brand. They are getting paid to play for the school.

Re: Transfer portal 2022
Are you saying that an arbitrary ranking about value has no value?
How do you calculate the value of this ranking about value?
Re: Transfer portal 2022
Value over Replacement Algorithm obviously.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 2:37 pmAre you saying that an arbitrary ranking about value has no value?

Re: Transfer portal 2022
If they have professionals helping create those lists, laugh at it all you want ( because I do sometimes too ), but it is very much a real thing.
