lol
this is hilarious to me…NIL valuation seems an awful lot like social media influencer valuation
there’s a whole lot of wtf

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Transfer portal 2022
A random fan blog ranking of "best stadium nachos" is a real thing, too and likely has just as much impact.

But there is a very strong connection.
We live in an IG Tik Tok world.
Re: Transfer portal 2022
Ignorant.
So you think the world's leading Social Media Marketing Agencies are just ranking nachos.
Re: Transfer portal 2022
I give a list like that as much respect as I give those maps of the US that have each states favorite (team/candy/whatever).

Hence why I think this NIL relationship with college athletes is going to ruin the sport.
Re: Transfer portal 2022
OK.
I think it's more credible than that.
I'll just be sure to look out to see if you ever refer to recruiting rankings for players or teams ever again here.
Whoops.

the kids deserve to get theirs, imo, and be afforded the same “rights” and opportunities as any other student
i don’t blame the athletes, those paying them, or even NIL itself for this clusterfuck. the blame goes squarely at the feet of the ncaa

Re: Transfer portal 2022
I don't blame most of the athletes - ( except the rare ones who have already hired NIL agents and are threatening transfer unless they get PAID ) - though I would say, if you don't like college sports, you shouldn't play them. I definitely will give some blame the people paying them if their intent is simply to get a player to go to the school they want them to ( boosters with money to throw around ).
But now, most of the blame is on NCAA for sure.
They should have kept collegiate sports closer to amateur which means putting students over growing the business. And now it's too late.
Pay for play is basically here and won't have to hide behind NIL for that much longer.

Re: Transfer portal 2022
to your first paragraph, i just can’t blame people for exploiting the “rules”, or lack thereof…it’s human nature. maybe i’m wrong, but i’d lay a bet that every single one of us here has exploited our employer in one way or another
that’s why to me, the blame goes to the body tasked with making (and enforcing) the rules

Err.
I dont think I have.
Guess it depends on definition of exploit.
Also I guess we have accepted student athletes as employees of a business.
But definitely agree the NCAA drove the bus off the bridge.

Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime. That's why I poop on company time!KUTradition wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 3:36 pm but i’d lay a bet that every single one of us here has exploited our employer in one way or another
And check message boards...
Re: Transfer portal 2022
Oh, well, if you count checking message boreds as exploiting your employer ( I don’t ) then guilty as charged.

Re: Transfer portal 2022
Lol, that might be getting a bit technical I suppose, but without knowing your occupation, I can't imagine you're being paid to check out message boards. All depends where you draw the line on exploitation.
Reminds me of the episode of The Office where Jim carries a stop watch all day timing Dwight's "personal time" while at work.

Re: Transfer portal 2022
it’s time loss
i’d imagine most, if not all employers would view it that way…though, some would care and some wouldn’t

In 10 years, we'll add it to the long list of things that were supposed to ruin college athletics but didn't.pdub wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 2:52 pmNo.

Re: Transfer portal 2022
Not here we won’t.
Re: Transfer portal 2022
The year is 2022, college athletes are now getting paid and if you complain about it ruining the sport(s) you will inevitably be called a racist on Twitter.
