His own words were 10 FBS conferences. Doesn't sound like we are getting left out regardless.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 11:19 pm I'm not chasing all of those tangential points and arguments.
The entire point here is that you have one of the most powerful AD's in the country saying out loud that the NCAA can govern the G5 if it wants to, but the Big Boys want out and they're going to play their own game and make their own rules.
Who determines who the Big Boys are? The Ohio State and Michigan and Texas's of the world. Not the Houstons and Cincinnati's.
We are at one of the most critical points in the history of Kansas Athletics, and if staying a Big Boy means accepting less TV rights dollars or paying an astronomical buyout, then you spend that money.
Again spend all the money in the world. Accept no TV money. Doesn't matter if the Big10 doesn't invite KU to join.

I just said "had me excited for a minute" because I thought the article was going to be about the Big10 expanding. But it wasn't.

Can you really not follow the breadcrumbs? He is talking about the CFP model, a model that treats 5 conferences very, very differently than the other 5.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 11:23 pmHis own words were 10 FBS conferences. There is an obvious, deliberate path here. After that, it's simple math. If the Western Conference of the NBA is completely dominated by the Lakers, Spurs, Warriors, Clippers, and Rockets, and then the Lakers poach the 2 best players on the Rockets, are there still 5 dominant teams or are there four?
Regarding what KU is doing regardless of you wanting them to sit on their hands--do you actually think OU and UT were just sitting around waiting for an SEC invite? That these billion dollar endowment institutions are not machinating behind the scenes for years?
Completely unrelated I am sure: KU just submitted a $350 football stadium capital improvement request the KS Board of Regents.

The big12 is one of the conferences that gets treated very differently and that will continue even without UT and OU.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 11:33 pmCan you really not follow the breadcrumbs? I don't want KU to sit on their hands. That's a strawman. I want KU in the Big10 just like you do.
Of course the stadium improvements aren't completely unrelated. But trying to get into the big10 isn't the sole reason for the improvements either. They are needed regardless of which conference we are in. And we've made huge improvements to facilities long before we ever imagined we'd need to bolt from the big12.
I don't think UT and OU just waited around. But this is football driven and comparing KU to OU and UT isn't realistic. And regardless, the SEC still had to want them. It wasn't up to OU and UT.
We just disagree that the big 12 is trash without UT and OU. That's okay. I think we will be fine if we stay in the big12. We won't get left out of anything FBS related as the 5th best conference.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
Bowling Green has not been left out of FBS (D1-A) for the entirety of FBS's history. That's not exactly the standard we are going for.
Re: Conference Realignment..?
That's a ridiculous comparison. We still have multiple big time programs in the new Big12.

Because CnB and I were talking about a topic without being overly disrespectful to each other even though we don't fully agree on it. He didn't/doesn't need Cascadia (or you) jumping in to talk shit on his behalf.
Not sure if you or anyone noticed, but when a select few of you aren't around, the rest of us can talk all day without personal attacks for the most part. Even when disagreeing.
Go back and look. The last few weeks it's been minimal. Only about 3 or 4 of you initiate that type of stuff continually.

Re: Conference Realignment..?
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Conference Realignment..?
i suppose the big 10 is preferable to the pacific 10. but it is not preferable to the BIG 12.

Whether that be getting back to being a winning football program every year and improving our facilities.
Or helping make the Big12 as good as it can be by enticing new members.
Or becoming attractive enough (financially) to get invited to the Big10.
We have control over the 1st 2 statements, and very little control over the 3rd (unfortunately). And to achieve the 3rd statement it will likely require the 1st 2 statements to at least be partially achieved.
Re: Conference Realignment..?
Those stadium changes have been needed for 20+ years and never happened until KU and the Big 12 were on the brink of being left behind in conference realignment.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 11:41 pmThe big12 is one of the conferences that gets treated very differently and that will continue even without UT and OU.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 11:33 pmCan you really not follow the breadcrumbs? And there is zero guarantee that the Big 12 will continue to be treated like one of the top tier power conferences. What happens if West Virginia decides to leave for the Big East or ACC, Houston and Okie State get SEC invites, etc...
You are right that the Big 12 is not trash without UT and OU but it is MUCH more vulnerable to being left behind. There was zero chance if Texas and OU stayed. Now there is a very real chance that it gets poached for parts.
Re: Conference Realignment..?
I think we'd get invited to those conferences in those scenarios before the schools you mentioned were, or at the very least we would be invited along with them.twocoach wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 9:21 amThose stadium changes have been needed for 20+ years and never happened until KU and the Big 12 were on the brink of being left behind in conference realignment.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 11:41 pmThe big12 is one of the conferences that gets treated very differently and that will continue even without UT and OU.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue May 03, 2022 11:33 pm
