As someone who has spent the better part of 18 months in Como (I have spent at least one week every month between October 2016 and May 2018, except Aug) only A+ recommendations made it here. Trust me, there’s more than your share of awful restaurants in Como (the quality of the food is inversely proportional to the length of the menu). Glad to hear that my experience could be replicated.
you’re trying to reason with a guy that’s 1) never been out of the country, and 2) doesn’t see much difference from one pizza joint to the next
Everything that you need to say is in your signature quote!!

I had at least two 10/10 meals when I was in Italy - the best being a tiny trattoria in Florence recommended by a friend who grew up there.

Just got back from spending the day in Florence. Definitely going to make another trip to spend multiple days there. The amount of art there is insane. A little congested but that was expected. The Duomo is breathtaking and the view from Abbazia di San Miniato al Monte is worth taking in. Off to a sunset dinner in Tuscany.

Hope you put a coin in Il Porcellino's mouth and wished for Braun and Wilson to come back.

Would love to get back to Europe again some day and be able to spend more time just being a tourist. I'd love to wander from small town to small town through Germany/Italy/France. Probably needs to be a kid-free trip. Some day...

Yes, if I went back, i'd be torn between going to the smaller towns of the countries i've already visited or doing the major sites of the countries I hadn't.

Oktoberfest in Southern Germany was such a blast, it almost caused me to miss my flight home.

Exactly.

There was this Little Lantern ( Lanternchen ) drank that my German friends wanted to end the night with which was hard cider and cherry wine in a Mass - basically 3 beers worth of cider and wine.

I lived on top of a four floor walkup, had a suitcase of stuff to bring home and had a flight at 9 AM the next morning. No mobile phone, just printed directions on how to get to the airport. Basically died.

Look up Sechselauten in Zurich - happens the weekend after Easter. Accidentally came upon it during a business trip and I had such a blast that I planned a family trip to Switzerland around it.

Happened to be in Bergamo for the finish of the Giro Lombardia bicycle race. Again, not planned and loved every minute!!

Yes I agree. Just got to Budapest and will be in Austria until next week. Enjoying the strong US $

I'd also recommend going to Europe during the Euro or World Cup.
Events in themselves, going to the pubs with the supporters.

Today was spent driving all over Tuscany. Main stops were Montalcino, Montepulciano and Orvieto. Stunning scenery but the driving was a bit stressful. This was basically all for the travel partner.

Thanks for this! exploding heads on snowmen. looks fun!

American festivities focus too much on kids. Give me an adult party with costumes, walkable city neighborhoods, and great public transportation!

Ugh, so the travel partner wrecked her Vespa on the last turn of a 90 minute ride through Tuscany. We missed out on the tour, food and wine tasting that followed the ride. She’s laid out on the coach and seems to be doing OK. Going to make tomorrow a bit of a challenge.

Drive to Florence, taxi to train station, train to Rome, taxi to hotel, shuttle to airport for covid tests and the shuttle back to hotel.

Which coach?
Twocoach or HCBS?
I'd much rather make out with HCBS to be honest.

that is probably my biggest dread associated with renting a vehicle overseas, despite having driven in some of the most inhospitable urban environments (Manila and Yaoundé)

care to share more?

It was a mild crash really. Kind of a non graceful layover on a 5mph (or less) turn. Didn't hit her head so that’s good. Hard fall on her side. She’s a nurse so she has a good feel for injuries.
