I think it’s just that people drive to nearby parks more following Covid shutdown than get on planes. Now with fuel prices shorter drives are preferred. This I suppose leads to more crowding in parks near populated areas. Even still there are enough options in places like SF Bay Area that there are trails which are relatively quiet, as there are just an abundance of good options. I can actually walk from my house to a County Park trailhead.

Next trip is late July. Flying to Fairbanks (Alaska is the only state I’ve never visited) and driving to Prudhoe Bay. Stopping at Gates of the Arctic along the way. Going to go swimming in the Arctic Ocean.

Prepare for your nuts to be in your armpits, trying to find a warm place

it’s a tough call, but still likely my favorite of all the natural places i’ve been

i would recommend Denali, but it sounds like you’re gonna be quite a distance from there

I'm going to break up Alaska in to multiple trips over the next decade. It's just too fucking big.

Juneau, Ketchikan & Glacier Bay NP
Anchorage, Kenai Peninsula, Kenai Fjords NP & Lake Clark NP
Denali NP
Kodiak, Katmai NP &the Aleutian Islands
Kobuk Valley NP
Wrangell-St. Elias NP
Nome & Bering Land Bridge NR

A friend really wanted to do the Arctic trip, so I said fuck it, have to start somewhere.

Sounds really exciting. I have been in 44 States, Alaska being one of the six yet to visit.

Also never been south of the equator, except on the climb out from Runway 20 out of Changi. Looking to hit up some South American countries next (our) spring.

Yeah, South America is in the short list as well. Specifically Medellin, Patagonia and the Falkland Islands

skip Medellin. Go to Popayan, Cartagena, Barranquilla or a hundred other places before Medellin.

Don't miss Tayrona National Park, its beautiful. Bunch of nice areas in the SE interior too, just hard to get to. Winding, terribly maintained mountain roads. But some awesome views, and amazing Incan ruins.

and make sure you fly the Tesla Jet when you go globe trotting.

And I’m surprised how few folks are wearing masks compared to last time I flew 4 months ago, wait not surprising at all.

Also unlike 4 months ago, have yet to see a single MAGA hat in the airport yet.

How’s that work?

Some dood was recruiting travelers in line to come try it, but by that time I was pretty much through anyway. Guess I never bothered either way cuz I just don’t fly often

How is the Bay Area treating you so far ousie? We welcomed you with fireworks and we have a parade on Monday!!

Not bad weather for the weekend - make sure you have layers if you’re anywhere near the water! Supposed to be hot in the middle of the week
