2022-2023 Lineup
Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
Just can’t see Yesufu over McCullar
Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
This time last year we didn't envision DH would start over Remy all year either. And Remy is a lot better than McCullar.
Self and transfers is a complicated subject to analyze. Especially in the transfer's first year at KU.
Just have to wait and see.

McCullar also has to prove the ability to stay healthy for an entire season which he has never done. If he misses any significant time it will really put him behind the learning curve.

Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
Katz just listed Jalen as the 8th best returning player in country. McCullar the 23rd best. We may be a little better than I think—shooting is a big concern. Defense will be nails. I’d still lean Texas for the league title. Kentucky and UNC for the chip.

Remy started every single game until he got hurt.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 6:18 pmThis time last year we didn't envision DH would start over Remy all year either. And Remy is a lot better than McCullar.

Fair enough. Remy did start 13 of the 30 games he played in for us.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Sat Jun 04, 2022 11:56 amRemy started every single game until he got hurt.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 6:18 pmThis time last year we didn't envision DH would start over Remy all year either. And DH started every game other than Senior Night.
I am cautiously optimistic about McCullar, but he's not a lock to start. He's going to have to earn his minutes just like all the newcomers.

Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
For all intents and purposes, Remy was a starter at the end of the season. Marvin Williams situation with 6 starters—leading the team in points.
Difference with McCullar is that McCullar is a Bill Self player. Going to get that Marcus Garrett trust.

Time will tell.
McCullar is likely fighting for minutes with our 2 highest recruits + Yesufu/Bobby.
As fans, it's a good problem to have.

Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
Not really likely solely fighting two small guards. The big thing with McCullar is that he can play next to anyone at 4 different spots and can guard 1-4, even guarding 1-5 at times last season. We've seen this script before, often bitching at Self for not playing the better jumpshooter.

Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
I also don't see how anyone here can look at the careers of McCullar and Yesufu and think that that is a close battle from what we know. Pettiford is an even wider gap.

The overoptimistic ceiling lineup could be:
McCullar All Big 12 and DPOY/2nd round draft pick
Rice Big 12 HM/1st round pick
Dick All Big 12/1st round pick
Wilson All Big 12/2nd round pick
Clemence Big 12 HM/NBA Combine invite
McCullar All Big 12 and DPOY/2nd round draft pick
Rice Big 12 HM/1st round pick
Dick All Big 12/1st round pick
Wilson All Big 12/2nd round pick

Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
you think that’s overly optimistic for JW? 2nd round would seem well within reach if he improves the way Och and CB did
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
I think expecting each of those 5 guys playing to the level I listed is overly optimistic, but feel that is the top talent playing to their full potential.KUTradition wrote: ↑Sat Jun 04, 2022 1:11 pm you think that’s overly optimistic for JW? 2nd round would seem well within reach if he improves the way Och and CB did
I may have been a little light on JW, but I do think his pro prospects are quite a bit different than Och and CB's. I don't see him sneaking into the first and as far season accolades, he has struck me more as a utility player than a go-to alpha.

I think that’s my expectations for Jalen.
All B12 and 2nd round pick.
Overly optimistic would be B12POY and late 1st round pick.

Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
I think there will be some break-out guys. We were a little spoiled last year. Remy's assists were spectacular even early on. Looking at the season highlights, many of the dimes I thought Harris or Braun had dropped were from the VSOP end of the spectrum. My advice to the guys this summer is work on your shot and you will play. It doesn't hurt to practice half-court oops either.

I think mccullar will fit in better/quicker than any transfer we have had lately. his strengths are defense and passing. self will love his game. he's experienced and will be a perfect role player

Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
The only two players I would have rather had in the portal are Hunter and Kendric Davis. But given Dajuan's presence on the team, McCullar is the better fit and #1 target--someone has to play those minutes we just lost.randylahey wrote: ↑Sun Jun 05, 2022 1:28 pm I think mccullar will fit in better/quicker than any transfer we have had lately. his strengths of defense and passing. self will love his game. his experienced and will be a perfect role player
With Jalen back, Mosley's going to end up somewhere else. Something like mizzou, so we'll see him.
