Apparently walking on to the basketball team, not a scholarship offer.

Re: Kansas Football 2022 Season
I admittedly don't follow recruiting hardly at all but this seems big. KU started the weekend with 0 commitments for the class of 2023. Now 5 of the 8 players in that class that visited last weekend have committed. All of them seem to be solid talents. They also added another player for 2022 with JUCO linebacker Tristian Fletcher who I believe has 3 years of eligibility.

A good weekend. Beaty and Les had these kind of weekends too. Have to show improvement and success to keep them. I don’t pay attention to it as much as I used too, but seems like a positive thing.

Really, really good article. Author says it’s one of his favorite pieces he’s written.

i was initially disappointed that most of the article is behind a paywall, but honestly, the first paragraph is probably all i needed to read to know how things are going
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Re: Kansas Football 2022 Season
That was a great read. I think my favorite part was Leipold's wife telling him in 2021 maybe it's time you start looking for a challenge because you seem like you're getting bored at Buffalo. That along with everything else from that story truly underscores how everything Liepold does is measured, calculated, detailed, and intentional. It leaves no doubt that he studied up and truly wanted to be at Kansas to take on this challenge. I know we've got a long way to go still but it's hard not to feel good about the combo of Goff and Leipold right now.

Reading this and looking back at Goff's coaching search, man, what a wild time that was to try to bring in a new staff instead of riding with an interim guy for a year. But Goff made the right choice. And he seemed to conduct the whole thing in the best way possible. Even up to the very end when Leipold's name was strongly attached to the job, everyone was still calling it a tossup between him and Jeff Monken.

Re: Kansas Football 2022 Season
Dylan Edwards, good RB from Derby committed to kstate today.
Avery Johnson, the QB from Maize is probably not far behind to join him.
Not off to the best start for the coveted 2023 Kansas High School recruiting class. But Leipold and Co have seemed to focus more on the developing than getting the top recruits. Get guys who they know they can improve.

Still would have loved either and I still believe that Monken was Goff's top choice until the very end.UnholyLivingDead wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 10:48 amHahahaha, I mean, there's that too.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 10:29 amHoney, go get paid more money.UnholyLivingDead wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 10:22 am That was a great read. The buzz around Avery Johnson is he REALLY wants to go to Oregon but they have cooled on him big time.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 1:42 pm Dylan Edwards, good RB from Derby committed to kstate today.

Does Leipold need to improve in-state recruiting for KU? Yes. But he can't do it at the expense of everything else. The staff will go recruit the players that fit the style they want to play and coach them up from there. The rest will take care of itself. It's important to remember these recruits have pretty much never seen a good KU football team. That tide will turn if/when they start getting wins. Especially once they notch a win or two over KState.

it’s amazing how many “issues” magically go away with winning

Winning does cure quite a bit.
Speaking of winning. Decent chance I may be heading to the first game on the 2nd against Tenn Tech. Might be the only game I can get to all year especially with my oldest playing later in the day on Saturdays with youth football.

Re: Kansas Football 2022 Season
Especially when people want to make a big deal out of in-state recruiting battles. In a world where KU wins their fair share of games against KSU, the number of college kids who would choose to live in Manhattan over Lawrence is relatively small.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 2:19 pm100% on both sections you wrote.UnholyLivingDead wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 2:01 pmThe buzz around Avery Johnson is he REALLY wants to go to Oregon but they have cooled on him big time.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 23, 2022 1:42 pm Dylan Edwards, good RB from Derby committed to kstate today.

Nice, hope you get to go, I think the Duke game is about the only one I could make this year.
Re: Kansas Football 2022 Season
I am ready for the season to start. We will make all home games this year, unless something crazy happens. Hopefully, we put a stop to the Friday night games after this year.

Re: Kansas Football 2022 Season
Kansas Jayhawks
To close out the list is ... Kansas? That's right, don't overlook what the Jayhawks are doing along the offensive line. Head coach Lance Leipold has people optimistic about the direction of KU's football program and how the front line executed his wide-zone offense in 2021 helped that cause. Four of five starters return in 2022. Malik Clark is the only one who's gone, but replacing him is Armaj Reed-Adams. This is noteworthy as the junior has drawn rave reviews from the staff over the course of the offseason. With coaches pumped about this replacement to go with the established starters, Kansas may be able to build even more momentum on the offensive side of the ball. There's also incoming Buffalo transfer Deondre Doiron, a newcomer who's able to provide depth at all five spots up front.
If the Jayhawks can lean on the offensive line to go with a strong running back room and an intriguing young quarterback, they may be more difficult to defend than you might expect.
