Another mass shooting
Re: Another mass shooting
How to find your Senators, their websites, and then just look for their Contact links. Sometimes there is a link specifically for your legislative opinions. It is best to stick to only your own Senators (i.e. your own state) and to only one issue per email/letter.

Re: Another mass shooting
I absolutely agree with you. However, this bipartisan effort has a chance to pass and will make a difference. Sandy Hook parents, Biden, etc. are in support of the framework. That is good enough for me. Sure I want more. But this is how it works.
Re: Another mass shooting
Bingo.
Can't let perfect become the enemy of good.
More positive steps can be taken later. This doesn't have to be "it". Something is better than nothing.
Re: Another mass shooting
I also do not support not expanding background checks. Anyone can still buy whatever they want on the secondary market or from someone that falls outside the requirement.
"Better than nothing" but it isn't even close to what is fully needed.
Re: Another mass shooting
IF this legislation gets enacted, the movement does not stop. This is only the beginning. NOTHING has happened in generations. Things have actually been going backward in our lifetime. We need this one to pass.twocoach wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 11:10 amI also do not support not expanding background checks. Re: Another mass shooting
the winds of change are blowing.
Re: Another mass shooting
Predictable. Every time an idea is presented twocoach comes along to tell us how it's not perfect. Even though no solution will be perfect.
It's not about perfect, it's about progress.

Re: Another mass shooting
As others have said, this does not go nearly far enough. At the same time, I'm not sure that it can get passed.
Defense. Rebounds.
Re: Another mass shooting
Any deal in the 50-50 Senate would need the support of at least 10 Republicans, joining every Democrat, to produce the 60 votes necessary to break a filibuster. The bipartisan group that came up with this proposal included, you guessed it, 10 Republicans.

99,
Here you go and, God help you, Kentucky has some notable Senators.

Re: Another mass shooting
Fingers crossed that it gets passed and that it isn't the end to the discussions to what needs to be done. Things like this are LONG overdue.

Sorry if I’m not cheering this “agreement”. The two statements which describe the situation are “Don’t urinate on my foot and try to convince me that it’s raining” and “Don’t expect me to reward you for not stealing”.twocoach wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 11:35 amHence the "Better than nothing"BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 11:20 am Predictable. To me this is just a case of cowards cementing their cowardice.
Re: Another mass shooting
I am only "happy" with this because it is an improvement over the current state. Overall, this deal sucks pretty hard in my opinion.zsn wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 4:01 pmSorry if I’m not cheering this “agreement”. Among the Democrat ideas Republicans shut down:
- an assault weapons ban for 18-to-21-year-olds and a mandatory waiting period for all gun sales. (NECESSARY)
- a 21-day waiting period for those under 21 when buying any firearm (BENEFICIAL)
- a high-capacity magazine ban (NECESSARY)
- universal background checks (NECESSARY)
- safe storage requirements for all firearms in homes (NECESSARY)
- criminal penalties for not storing firearms properly in the home (BENEFICIAL)
- and a license requirement to purchase an assault weapon (NECESSARY)
Basically, the Republicans got rid of the vast majority of the necessary gun control items.
Re: Another mass shooting
That is a damn shame that all those things are left out.
Inmate #157103 will likely spend the rest of his life at a federal penitentiary within an hour of his parent's home. A month ago today, he drove 3.5 hours to lynch dads and sisters and grandmothers and anyone else he could find that was black.
He has educated parents. He had access to a good and free education. His parents avoided violence. It was not a broken home. There was no poverty.
He learned how to do his evil deeds on the internet. He learned what weapons to get, how to pick a target, why he should do it, and how to stream it on the internet.
If you give your children unlimited access to the internet, think again.
If you think your 18-year-old (or 7 or 22) has a fully developed brain and is ready to manage everything life throws at them, think again.

Re: Another mass shooting
even if this new gun bill gets passed, the lunatic fringe gop of the house is already threatening to cut funding or repeal it (if/when they get power back)
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Another mass shooting
Ted Cruz and other GOP knobs blame kids growing up in broken homes and declining church attendance for mass shootings. Meanwhile, the buffalo shooter grew up in a home with both parents and were "very average people, God-fearing people.”DrPepper wrote: ↑Tue Jun 14, 2022 12:09 pm That is a damn shame that all those things are left out.

Yet the GOP just keeps spewing the same lies over and over, waiting for the news cycle to roll on to the next thing, hoping that next thing isn't another mass murder at the hands of yet another gunman.
