It's weird hearing people be so ignorant as to how big of a deal this is for the city. I just don't think some know how popular soccer is around the world.

The NFL Draft will be the biggest event that KC has ever hosted. And then the World Cup will dwarf that.

The biggest question, will people tailgate and do their BBQ from the parking lot like Chiefs games? Would be kind of cool if they did. I know a lot of people will be there before the game, but wonder if it will be tailgated like Chiefs games are.

NewtonHawk11 wrote: Thu Jun 16, 2022 11:23 amBut we'll get a couple of games like Ghana vs South Korea and Chile vs Italy. Some lower-ish tier games that will still be fun to watch. I'm going to do my best to get to a game.

But they'll save the big matchups and the US games for the big markets like NY, LA, Houston and other places like that.
KC is going to get 1 or 2 rowdy fanbases, and that's all you need to make it an electric atmosphere in the city. The field is also expanding for 2026. Some South American team, maybe a decent Euro squad, and yeah, for the Asian Cup, you'd rather have Korea, Australia, or Japan over Iran or Saudi.

And maybe it's just me, but I don't find it all that appealing to go to LA to watch USMNT in the World Cup. Would rather watch that abroad if I'm dealing with that headache.

They're going to have to set up some kind of village for fans. Too many out-of-towners looking for stuff to do, will want to cut down on the amount of cars out there, and it's just going to be too hot.

It's too bad that Kauffman won't be razed by then.

Yeah, I'm sure they will. When KC hosted the All-Star game several years ago, they spent quite a bit of money cleaning up the interstates, landscaping, etc. Just wish they would consistently keep areas clean. But people need to quit being such lazy slobs and quit tossing trash and cig butts out their windows or disposing of trash/tires in vacant lots.
KCMO is a shithole. Nice parts, for sure, but overall, blech. Happy for area in seemingly getting WC, but it's a headscratcher as to why IMO. Sure, arrowhead is awesome, and more soccer moms per capita here than most places, but the city infrastructure is hot garbage, at best. And yes, to your point, very little civic pride in KC (doesn't mean the sports fans aren't passionate).
It will take less time and effort to clean up littered parts of KC versus cleaning up and dealing with Denver's huge homeless population.

Ha. I used to like Denver (20 years ago), but last time I was there, about a year ago, I just didn't care for it much. Too much cookie cutter development and homeless camps all around Lower downtown. Same thing is happening to Austin, too much development in a short period of time and people flooding in. Traffic is a nightmare in Austin and somewhat in Denver as well.

I doubt Denver gets a bid, but if they do, the homeless can be swept (bussed) away. See: 2008 DNC.

I don’t like Denver as much as I did when I lived in city proper (moved to Northern Colorado in 2013). Growth definitely too fast, way too many Becky and Chad’s living in apartments that all look like 80th and Metcalf.

But Denver definitely doesn’t fucking suck. Haha. And as a choice between one, I won’t understand how KC got selected over Denver.

Will know all this for sure in about half an hour.

While I still think Denver's bid was entirely too stale (just read the first quote here: https://kdvr.com/news/local/denvers-pus ... -cup-2026/),

it could be as simple as the fact that FIFA's not going to host games 5000+ feet in the air.

Pinnacle and KC always showing out for soccer is what FIFA fell in love with regarding KC.

Isn’t Mexico City a no-brainer? In regards to 5000+ ft concern.

CnB, somehow I missed that long post earlier. Good stuff. How did I scroll past that without seeing it haha?

And I haven’t read a lot of this thread. I was gone for a good while and haven’t read too much other than FF related stuff, tbh.

Denver definitely doesn’t suck. They have done a lot of good investments in Denver, all starting with Coors Field and LoDo. I would move there if it wasn’t for the high cost of living. Nashville, another city I like, is the same.

Good point. I would guess Mexico doesn't have a lot of options, though.

They broke the cities down into 3 regions: West, Central, and East. West region announced first:

Vancouver
Seattle
San Francisco/Bay Area
Los Angeles
Guadalajara

Does Los Angeles count as 1 or 2 host cities? I don't think that was clear.
