Depends on who is playing on KC? If it’s someone big, you absolutely do it. Smaller country, there probably won’t be that big of a demand for it. IMO

I expect this will be a smashing success, and will (finally) change locals' perspective on what "downtown" means and can be. "Walkable" doesn't, and shouldn't, mean "adjacent."

Downtown boosters have envisioned building a park over the interstate for years. In addition to bringing new green space to the heart of the city, a deck over I-670 would curtail noise from the interstate traffic below.

Current plans call for building a $200 million, 4.6-acre park over the interstate, from Wyandotte Street to Grand Boulevard, connecting downtown with the Crossroads Arts District.

I absolutely would if I had an apartment or condo somewhere with high tourist demand. I'd just find another place to crash for a couple weeks in exchange for probably a couple months' worth of rent/mortgage coverage.

Yep. The city has such a huge opportunity, to be on the ascent like this at such a time of urban design and city planning change (post-Covid etc.). Where other cities are sort of stuck with (and need to work within the constraints of) outdated infrastructure models, KC gets to BUILD the “new” way.

It is time to think of a name for our new airport terminal — but not after a politician, sports figure or any one person, for that matter. It should be called “Hero Terminal,” to honor all the people who have served in wars, those who helped during the 9/11 tragedy, police officers, firefighters, hospital workers, border patrol agents and anybody else who helps keep us safe. It should especially honor veterans from Kansas City who received the Medal of Honor for their service. I think large pictures of these hometown men and women, with information about why they were awarded, should hang throughout the airport. This would let visitors know that our veterans did their part to keep our country safe and free.

Because the last thing Kansas City needs is for its literal front door to be MAGA coding* that bears no meaningful nexus to the city or region. Not a nexus that's close to worthy of this sort of designation (I would note, more generally, that by no means does a single terminal need a name anyway).

* The references to 9/11 and, most grossly, "border patrol agents", give the game away here. The geographic fucking CENTER of the continental United States is in Kansas.

I’m just so tired of how much everything we do in this country has to be about “honoring the military.” A few things about it bother me:

(1) there’s always this guilt trip about “never forget” when it’s literally every sports event and political speech in this country. Hell, if I did forget, I couldn’t make it a full day without being reminded.
(2) We’ll do everything to “honor” these people as a country except put some money into housing and health care for them. How about doing something besides dragging a 300 foot flag across a football field every Sunday that actually honors somebody?
(3) I can’t stand how we raise up the military (and cops) at every opportunity as if they’re the only people whose jobs contribute to the good of the country. As much as the rhetoric lays on the guilt, it also makes it really easy to think a perfunctory act like taking off your hat during the national anthem counts as honoring public servants and lets you go about your self-centered life. I think our society would benefit from asking and recognizing how every job should be making the country better.

I think it truly honors the veterans and first responders best not making their service a trite talking point as you work to dismantle institutions they fought to preserve. Like democracy. And egalitarianism.
