serve and protect
Re: serve and protect
A local church just got a resource officer for Sunday mornings. This is to protect their children. Way to go, second amendment.
Re: serve and protect
If you are pissed off and have easy access to purchasing a gun, I don't see whether or not you can legally conceal carry or not being a determining factor as to whether or not a shooting will occur. It's the "easy ability to gain possession of a gun" that seems to be the problem. The Buffalo shooter had wanted to execute his plan for a long time but was unable to until he reached the age he was able to legally buy his weaponry.DrPepper wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 7:47 am I’ve said it before, ain’t no way in hell I will ever take a job at KU because concealed carry is allowed there. I don’t want pissed off students pumping hormones and lead. We went on an official visit, they walked us through their petroleum-funded buildings, we talked about concealed carry, then watched a lot of basketball videos. ee got a cool sticker and lots of emails.

It’s a bit easier to walk around with an itty bitty killing machine than the thing the Buffalo lyncher used. One is designed for every day carry. In a classroom of teens, it is the spur of the moment killer I fear most, not the 6-month planner. Maybe my fears are misplaced.
Re: serve and protect
How many school shootings or mass shootings have been committed by people legally conceal carrying? I'd guess very few.

When KU announced they were going to allow concealed carry on campus a co-worker of mine told his daughter she's not going to school there.DrPepper wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 7:47 am I’ve said it before, ain’t no way in hell I will ever take a job at KU because concealed carry is allowed there. I had mixed feelings but if anything - I can't blame him for erring on the side of concern and caution.
Meanwhile, we have people who will say the campus is actually safer because of concealed carry. Not sure how this can be proven true - or false.

Re: serve and protect
I think the majority of people who choose to conceal carry (legally) do so very responsibly and take it the privilege very seriously.
I also think many/most gun owners are responsible gun owners.
I don't think every person who owns a gun is a nut on the brink of committing murder.

Which is why I don't understand the vigorous refusal to expand any gun laws at all.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 9:17 am I think the majority of people who choose to conceal carry (legally) do so very responsibly and take it the privilege very seriously.

Re: serve and protect
when i was still employed there, there were all kinds of discussions about it…ranging from employees that wanted to carry and where/if they would have to lock up their weapon, to active shooter training and what the liability on university employees would be if they took an active role in trying to protect visitorsDrPepper wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 7:47 am I’ve said it before, ain’t no way in hell I will ever take a job at KU because concealed carry is allowed there. nobody had a goddamn clue what to do, but the general tone was to look out for KU rather than the safety of visitors
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

I am astonished at how many of the accounts say the convicted person who had the legal concealed carry permit was a former police officer, or navy trained in firearms, etc. I thought those people were supposed to be the good folx who know all about safety and respect the firearms blah blah blah. Their claims of innocence are often about accidents or just hot heads.

Re: serve and protect
As I have stated numerous times, a position in the military or in law enforcement is not only appealing to those who are drawn to truly serve and protect, it is also appealing to those who see it as a way to get away with abusing power and hurting people who they see as inferior to them and having a better chance to get away with it.DrPepper wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 10:48 amThanks for this link, I guess.twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 9:36 am No fears are misplaced at this point.

If by "you guys" he meant "people", that's one thing.
If by "you guys" he meant "black people", then that's another.

Or if "this is how you get killed" was referring to not wearing a seat belt.
