Not a mass shooting but please tell me who is/was the "good guy" with the gun in this story.
The robber, the store clerk, or the woman who says I'm going to take matters in to my own hands?
P.S. Any irony in the shirt choice she is wearing? :?

It just goes back to the whole "reduce the level of desperation and frustration and you can reduce the
level of violence and crime".

The shooting a couple nights ago at the beach and then the subsequent brawls in the nearby neighborhood...
Someone said if the kids had somewhere to go and the city pools were open (they currently are not - primarily due to life guard shortages) then these things wouldn't happen.
I responded that THESE kids would still have gone to the beach and neighborhood and acted like animals.
Bottom line is there is a reason for every action but let's not pretend we are in the "bad guy's" heads and know what is setting them off. Sure we can (and should) consider the root causes and issues but not everyone who suffers what these people are suffering feel the need to commit crimes.
Interesting that the article didn't mention the social media culture where way too many people feel doing illegal things and being "filmed" makes them cooler (or at least feel cooler) than doing good things and being "filmed".

Side note. About 10 years ago I tutored a kid who I pretty much knew was a lost cause but I didn't give up hope on/for him and tried to be a positive influence in his life. He did tell me he wanted to be a professional athlete (either Baseball or Basketball) when he grew up but when I started to explain to him how athletes are discovered and that they need to go to school and get decent grades, he lost interest.
Meanwhile, he did have choices and decent support systems but he chose to be a product of his environment and take a wrong path.

This was him just 3 years after I tutored him.

"Reduce" not "eliminate". We simply have too many people to effectively eliminate all societal violence.

I wonder how a 10,000% business tax on gun shops would be treated by the hack Justices?!? According to the literal original reading of Thomas, the 2nd Amendment does not guarantee the right to trade in firearms. Just keep and bear. Buying and selling wouldn’t be a guaranteed right. Kinda like the pound of flesh but no blood. Wonder if any legislator is smart enough to test it out

Again, not a mass shooting but this is yet another example of why I say we live in a shithole country.

once again, I'm a nonviolent peace love hippie type. I own no guns of my own.

but, many of the lefty pages are quick to point out, historically speaking, that a gummint disarming a people tends to not end well. Almost ironically, Qusdahl is one of the most hardcore gun nuts around.

but, I think the sheer number of guns in Merica is just outta hand. And just the gun culture generally.

but, I'm just not sure what good it does to have a people armed, or so well armed, if they're still just not educated or organized enough to actually do anything productive with their arms. Are they?

but, I saw a headline the other day that a over quarter of Americans are open to taking up arms against the gummint: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... government

if Americans suddenly DID take up arms against the gummint, I highly highly highly doubt it would be Qusdahl - which is to say, I highly doubt it would be some well-educated and well-organized bunch of lefties trying to execute a coup based on principles observed by previous coups in other places that historically achieved some sorta success, to install some gummint for "we the people," intended to provide thing like healthcare, and living wages, and generally address things like inequality and oppression and all the other things Qusdahl hates.

Rather, I think if Americans suddenly DID take up arms against the gummint, it would be poorly organized and lacking the understanding to actually execute. It would be something closer to the entitled chaos of the J6 shenanigans, than some precisely calculated coup, right? Moreover, it would very likely be implemented on some fucked up theocratic or ethno-nationalist terms, with little understanding of what they're actually trying to achieve, and little awareness that they're just the Taliban in another color.

...which is to say, we're far likely to have full blown fascism installed that only further concentrates power and inequality, rather than any sort of socialist anything meant to disperse power and promote equality.

or something?

At least 6 dead. Many more shot in critical condition.
The shooter escaped and is on the loose.
Most towns nearby canceled their Fourth of July celebrations out of fear (shooter at large and possible "copycat") and mourning.

Someone I know well was shot. Was told it “blew her foot up badly”. She’s in surgery. Not sure they can save it.

White male under the age of 25. Stop me if you've heard this one before.

Seems to have climbed up onto the roof of a building and opened fire on the crowd. "Person of interest" identified but still at large.

America is a hot mess from sea to shining sea.
