I knew someone fairly well who was killed. Jacki Lovi Sundheim May she rest in peace.
My guess is I knew others who were killed.

By the way, Jacki's cousin Ellen (maiden name Lovi) was a Jayhawk in the mid 80s.

Seems to have climbed up onto the roof of a building and opened fire on the crowd. "Person of interest" identified but still at large.

Shocker. The kid showed what can be considered as warning signs.
Can't wait for the far right assholes to blame "mental illness" while 100% ignoring the fact that if he didn't have a gun he wouldn't have shot anyone.

Thanks zsn! My mother was very upset/distraught. She was very close to Jacki despite their age differences.
As I said last night, my guess is as the names are released (and through "word of mouth") I will learn of more people I know/knew who were shot.

This was the brief Facebook post I read this morning from Ellen (Jayhawk) and Steve (her brother). I have known the family for 55 years and Ellen and Steve are truly two of the nicest people I know. They lost both their parents about a year or two ago. Also, two of the nicest people I ever knew.

"Our family is grieving with the tragic loss of Cousin Jacki Lovi Sundheim in yesterday’s Highland Park, IL mass shooting. Thank you to all who have reached out to many of our family members since yesterday. Cousin Jacki was loved and cherished by our family".

Sorry for the loss of your friend, Gutter. I lost a good friend in a shooting outside a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs. Feels like we'll all know someone who was killed in a mass shooting at some point in the too-near future..

My daughter has a sorority friend from KU who was at the parade and who hid inside the changing room of one of the shops on the parade route after the shooting began. Truly horrifying.

Texted with my friend who's wife (also my friend) was shot. She's doing "ok" - relatively speaking.
Horrific thing is their 3 sons, 3 daughter in laws, and 4 grandchildren were with her and witnessed it. Obviously they are still somewhat traumatized.

In regards to Jacki (woman I knew well), I can't imagine what her family is going through.

Goldstein and Straus are very common Jewish names and I know multiple families with those names so I fear they may have been related to them.

This is the most brutal thing to me and what I had feared yesterday and learned today. So sad.

Turns out a lot more people were shot then first reported. I don't have/know the names - yet.

In regards to the shooter, I say fuck his father. Father was well aware his kid was "troubled" and there were major warning signs (in 2019 the kid had amassed many knives and told his family he was going to kill them all - they were worried enough to call the police) and yet he allowed his kid to own and have at least 5 guns in the house. Gee, what could possibly go RIGHT?

Seems his mother (one of his mothers?) is a bit nuts too. I don't know details but it appears she and his sister (I believe he has 2 sisters) have different last names than Crimo so I don't know if it is his stepmother.

In regards to the state, I wonder what if any liability they have. No "red flags" (despite the incident in 2019) and he was easily able to obtain a FOID "card". Then he went and bought at least 5 guns.

So.....Uvalde police watched the gunman enter the school (who at this point was already known and on the run from the cops from the previous wreck and shooting incident)..with a clear and simple rifle shot (140 yards). He requested permission to take the shot.....and.....was denied???? by the chief. Story gets worse and worse, and fisher every day. Wtf actually happened down there.

The police chief who denied that request and also told them to not breach the classroom doors has a lot of questions to answer.

I'm not seeing anywhere that permission was denied. What I am seeing/reading is that there was no response. Not sure that's any better.

3-days after the Uvalde shooting, I googled something about TX school resource officers. I think I wanted to see if they were more or less than exactly a local town officer. Anyway, I immediately pulled up a training doc on how Texas schools are supposed to train their officers to deal with active shooters. It was training material from 2020. It shocked me that this info was freely on the internet for anyone to find. It tells me how to thwart the police. If the back door is open and you are surrounded by idiots, no plan is needed. But if I wanted to create a plan, this goes through scenarios from actual other school shootings (some sicko probably gets off on that). If I wanted to thwart the cops, this could help.

But I've been told that Al-Quaeda plans for making all sorts of contraptions and scenarios are available if I were to google them (no, I am not going to do that). However, didn't we start removing things like blueprints of the local water treatment plant after 9/11? It seems like maybe giving away the plans to how the police will react to an active school shooter is also something that should not be given away freely on the internet by the authorities that prepare such info.

I guess it is too late. This is the price of freedom.

Don't know why the reason(s) for people shooting (mental issues or gun possession) has to be all just one thing or the other. Like abortion, for or against, there's no winning the argument.
