are you really surprised that he’d sooner identify with the culture of inbred mouth breathers in the sec?

Sports wise, it's a great conference.

Yes, the SEC is a great football conference. Why did they feel the need to poach 2 more Big 12 schools after already poaching Mizzou and aTm? I hope OU and Texas enjoy being also rans. It's kind of like Nebraska joining the Big 10. Sure they get more money. Are they even relevant?

You're trying way too hard to convince yourself the SEC isn't the 1st or 2nd best conference.

It's a great football conference in terms of winning percentages and championships won.
My wishes for college athletics don't end there.

It's the most valuable conference. By far.
Money wise, a school would be asinine not to join if given the opportunity.

I agree.

I feel there should be some loyalty to the big 12.

But for those in a panic, either by the make up of the big 12, or desperately hoping for a big 10 invite that may never come, I think it's foolish to turn a nose up at a chance to join a conference as stable as the SEC.

for me, i’d like our conference to benefit the university beyond the gridiron, hardwood, or even just athletics

the university is bigger than its athletic brands

Only if you're an IVY League school or Stanford or someone like that. If you're not one of those, athletics is huge for branding and school reputation.

i’m not saying it’s not huge, but KU’s enrollment is ~30K

how many of those are athletes?

how many of them chose KU because of it’s athletics?

Probably 700

At least a third, I would say. Get a lot more out of state tuition with a better athletic program, I'd think..

"At least a third, I would say."

As the primary reason or as a secondary reason?
As the primary reason, no, I don't think it's a third.
I don't think it's even close to a third.

I'm a huge KU sports fan and the athletic program was maybe 4th on the reasons I attended KU.

and i’m not at all trying to deny that athletics is driving this bus. i’m just saying that as an alumni, former employee, and lover of all things KU, i’d like to see the university in a conference that values more than just football…err, athletics, above all else
