The NBA age rule has always been about NBA teams mitigating risks with their first round picks, wanting to see these young players play against a higher caliber of opponent and working with a higher caliber of coach before drafting them. The extra year gave them more opportunities to avoid drafting a bust. They must feel that the success of the G-League etc... now helps them mitigate that risk enough that they are willing to move it back down to 18.

The injury train gets moving early for Chet Holmgren. Sounds like he might have torn some ligaments while trying to challenge LeBron at a charity event. Oops. That's barely a good idea in an NBA regular season game, let alone a meaningless summer game.

Now being reported that Holmgren will miss the entire season due to a Lisfranc injury to his right foot. Bummer, would have been interesting to see how he does at the NBA level. Hopefully this doesn't turn into a regular thing but the body just isn't meant to support being 7 feet tall.

There aren't very many 7 footers who, with our without muscle, are able to avoid foot or back problems. Our bodies just aren't designed to handle that size and those two body parts are already prone to injury.
