So dumb. If that was the case then he wouldn't have bothered to release a record amount of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

Re: Uncle Joe
I would consider buying an EV if the range on them extends out further and the infrastructure to charge them quicker gets built out better. Most of the EV SUVs I have seen (I am not living in NE without all wheel drive) that I would consider have a range of just 200-250 miles on a charge. My wife hates to fly so we drive to anything that is within a 12 hour driving circle of where we live. When I can get from here to the mountains west of Denver (a 8-10 ish hour drive) with one stop for a recharge and that recharge takes less than 30 minutes or so then I'll consider it.
Re: Uncle Joe
Twocoach: you’re succumbing to the biggest myth/fallacy about EV ownership. I owned an EV for the better part of the past 7 years and the highest range one was about 150 miles. My commute was about 60 miles, round trip each day. I had no problem as we had a second vehicle with a 500+ mile range (diesel VW).
Since a majority of driving is local and most people have more than one vehicle EVs are perfect for everyday driving. Besides, unless you’re driving long distance every week you can always rent a car for just the occasional long distance trip. It’s not really a problem. I gave back my EV lease only because I work from home most of the time and I can’t justify owning a car which just sits there, EV or otherwise. If I had to go back to work I’ll gladly get an EV, although I wouldn’t plunk down the extra $$$$ for a Tesla. I’ll maybe get the Nissan Leaf again.

Re: Uncle Joe
As a concept I agree with you but my reality isn't as simple. At 6'2" with some fucked up back issues that have led to what appears to be permanent nerve damage in my right leg, I have to be picky about what car I sit in for any extended period of time. My 5'2" wife has a Mazda CX-9 which works great for her but we have taken it on a few longer trips and I have been pretty miserable in it. I just don't fit right. So I am pretty picky about my car selections from a pure fit perspective.zsn wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 10:53 am Twocoach: you’re succumbing to the biggest myth/fallacy about EV ownership. I am not up for a replacement of my car on our family financial calendar for several more years so maybe by then there will be a workable option. I'll know within 30 seconds of sitting in a car whether or not it will work for me. We'll see. I will definitely be looking at EVs when my time to replace comes up. Right now, we're working on upgrading to a new home so I need to make this car last as long as possible.
Re: Uncle Joe
I agree that everyone’s situation is different. However, for the most part lack of range shouldn’t be the reason to not get an EV. For most people it’s just that there is considerable life remaining in their current vehicle. Hopefully the day is not too far where we use an EV for everyday driving and rent a fossil fuel vehicle for the getaway.
Re: Uncle Joe
My parents refuse to consider an electric car cuz they say the lack of range concerns them.
They make 1x trip a year from MI to GA, and 1x trip back.
The other 363 days of the year, they’re only driving to the golf course or to the mall or to within a few miles of home.
But better plan the entire year around that one trip from MI to GA and back!

The willful ignorance of some people is impressive. So many false narratives around EVs

One day in the not too distant future there might be electric ones they can fly on too.Overlander wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 1:26 pmHave they not heard of airplanes?ousdahl wrote: ↑Fri Aug 19, 2022 1:02 pm My parents refuse to consider an electric car cuz they say the lack of range concerns them.

I think commercial electric aviation makes little sense because of the extremely high energy density of hydrocarbon fuels relative to weight. For surface transportation the weight is not a huge issue but it is for aviation. While I truly support transition away from internal combustion propulsion for transportation I don’t think it’s feasible in the aviation industry. Therefore we need to take a pragmatic “reduce” approach rather than “replace” approach. In this way we can offset our use of carbon-based fuel in aviation with alternative fuels in other modes.

nah…we just need better police
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Uncle Joe
Mrs 99 makes a good point, and Joe said something similar. It used to be that there were two cops per cop car, now only one. I think we'd see a lot less craziness if each car had 2 cops again. They would be safer and the people they pull over may also be safer.

Usually doesn't matter if there are 1, 2, 3, or 4 cops in a car in Chicago.jhawks99 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 2:59 pm Mrs 99 makes a good point, and Joe said something similar. Exhibit 1 of MANY. They went in force to break up this "sideshow" shit that is out of control in our city and this was what they were greeted with.

President Biden: "The pandemic is over."
Re: Uncle Joe
uncle joe is about 9 months behind.
better late than never.
although, uncle joe last week declared inflation was over. so there's that.
he might not be the most reliable source.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/202 ... cases.html
as of 9/18 the NYT says 61k average daily cases, 11% test positivity rate, 31K hospitalized, 3887 ICU, and 464 deaths a day.
I dunno what counts as the "end" to a pandemic, but we're still averaging a 9/11's worth of deaths every week.

the fathead internet knowitalls stopped pushing their china fungus on the rest of us months ago. to me, when the fathead internet knowitalls finally shut up, that is the "end."
