Re: Totally random thread
Master of the obvious here (me) chiming in with a bunch of typical Gutter gibberish.
There are positives and negatives to many/most things.
There are/have been "brilliant creative minds" that were/are alcohol/chemically enhanced and some that were alcohol/chemically reduced - just as they have been "brilliant creative minds" that are/have been enhanced by being sober and have been reduced by being sober.
Continuing with obvious sentiment... We're all different, with different brains, different ways we treat our bodies, etc.
Some benefit by what they do and don't do and some suffer by what they do and don't do.
P.S. Just yesterday I read that a guy I know won the The Premio Tenco International Award.
(Others who have won it - Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne)
He was basically on death's door because of how fucked up on drugs he used to be.
He said as fucked up as he was for many years, he never wrote a song wasted/under the influence.
He's now I believe about 8 years sober.
Some musicians claim they are more creative on drugs and alcohol. I believe it. I also believe some musicians creativity is negatively impacted by drugs and alcohol.
Steven King (the author) has given him massive praise and they are now buddies.

Some other stuff about him.

Re: Totally random thread
I suspect quite a few of the past creatives known to have been under the influence, were using to escape the constraints of 'normal' society rather than to enhance their creativity, no matter how they rationalized it. Its kind of a chicken and egg thing. Were they creative because of the drugs/alcohol or did they use because they didn't fit well into society because they were extremely creative?
Re: Totally random thread
yea, I agree that it's not necessarily the substances themselves that make folks "more creative," so much as it is that creative types are more inclined to use the substances.
but heck, yea maybe chicken and egg. if it helps get a new perspective or whatever, I dunno if that's necessarily a bad thing. and as you put it, what better way to enhance creativity than to escape the constraints of normal society?
I think it's ironic that a microdose of LSD or something before you paint a picture or write poetry or whatever is seen as illicit, yet going off the rails on adderrall is seen as good medicine.

Re: Totally random thread
I once did maybe some drugs and painted an oil painting on a flattened cardboard box using a Gillette Mach 3 as the brush. This was after taking apart my keyboard in order to figure out how it worked. It didn’t work after that.
Re: Totally random thread
damn bro, how many Flintstones vitamins did you eat?

that has reversed significantly in the last decade.

Re: Totally random thread
The very best music comes from people who are lit. They sober up and their music sucks.
Re: Totally random thread
microdosing has significantly less stigma than it used to and Adderall has been more realistically more demonized than it was....they used to give that shit out like candy in the 90s.ousdahl wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 9:59 amwait, what?TDub wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 9:40 amI think this is youre own construct...or you're stuck in 90sousdahl wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 9:12 am yea, I agree that it's not necessarily the substances themselves that make folks "more creative," so much as it is that creative types are more inclined to use the substances.

Re: Totally random thread
I didn't realize "going off the rails" abusing Adderall was seen as "good medicine".
Re: Totally random thread
all I know is, when I was prescribed 10mg doses of adderall, at the follow-up appointment the doctor asked how it was going for me. I said, not bad I guess, it can help me study and such, but the stuff kinda makes me feel all tweaked out, and gives me stomach aches too.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 10:25 am I didn't realize "going off the rails" abusing Adderall was seen as "good medicine".
His solution to that was to prescribe me the 20mg doses in addition.
Re: Totally random thread
ah, thanks.
yea they did give that shit out like candy.
but at least with psychedelics, while I agree that microdosing does have less stigma now, as far as I know even a microdose will still get you in just as much trouble in most places.
Re: Totally random thread
not in oregon, nothing really gets you in too much trouble hereousdahl wrote: ↑Mon Sep 05, 2022 10:47 amah, thanks.

whoa, good shit TDub.
Sturgill's a throwback to that once upon a time when country music had some existential awareness to it, about the human condition and class struggles and the plights and struggles and realities.
nowadays, most country is little more than one big glorified Bud Light commercial.

you make Oregon sound rad though.
In most other places, it's still something along the lines of this:

Re: Totally random thread
new music is terrible all the way around.
Sturgill got some good stuff but he's not really a throwback....he's not that old, though he's not singing now due to a vocal cord issue
meth sucks all the way around, nothing good about it.....trashy, every bit of it
