Now being reported that Holmgren will miss the entire season due to a Lisfranc injury to his right foot. Bummer, would have been interesting to see how he does at the NBA level. Hopefully this doesn't turn into a regular thing but the body just isn't meant to support being 7 feet tall.

oof, rough for the young man, and foot issues for a 7-footer before ever playing an NBA game doesn't bode well, does it.

Embiid may end up like Mickey Mantle, a guy who still puts up Hall of Fame numbers but whose true brilliance will be muted by a career full of injuries.

There aren't very many 7 footers who, with our without muscle, are able to avoid foot or back problems. Our bodies just aren't designed to handle that size and those two body parts are already prone to injury.

Joel is an outlier. And even he missed the first 2 seasons of his NBA career, which is a huge deal for a team trying to get out of the cellar.

I always think of a guy like Erick Dampier, whose best season by far was 12 points 12 rebounds, was drafted all the way back in 1996 before the supermax contracts became the norm, was given 16(!) seasons, and made $100m in salary. Would have been out of the league quickly if he was 2 inches shorter.

I'm a fan of the concept but.....
Question/s I have is let's say the Bools are the 8th team to advance. They then have to play a good team - as opposed to a bad team if they don't make the 8 team "final"? So isn't that kind of being punished instead of rewarded for being the 8th "seed"?

A mid season tourney is at least a better narrative than hearing about teams and players mailing it in for an otherwise long ass regular season.

NBA regular season is broken beyond repair. Only reasonable fix would be to dramatically shorten the season. Will never happen though. MLB has the same problem, but at least their star players don’t randomly take games off.

I love the NBA and can't come up with great arguments for someone that usually doesn't watch to watch the regular season. It is so meaningless when you have a 16-team best of 7 series playoffs.

Midseason tourney is vastly more meaningful than regular season NBA.

I think the NBA and MLB regular seasons need to be fixed, but for quite different reasons.

82 games is too many, and even after it, you're not quite sure who the best team is because of the changing rosters, veteran players taking breaks, injuries, and no pressure of the playoffs. Therefore you need a good playoff system to find the champion.

162 games is so many games that in a sport like baseball that fits statistics so well that after 162 games there's really no need for playoffs. Certainly not a long playoff system--6-8 teams max.

Both leagues also need to fix the games themselves. MLB games should be 2:30 and the minute is NBA games shouldn’t take 15 fucking minutes to play. The NBA Finals needs to be played in 10-11 days as well.

The NBA regular season sucks because 82 games is too many. Everyone knows that. But it will never change because shortening the season means less money

Play each team in your conference twice outside of your division. 20 games.
Play each team outside your conference once, alternate home and away each year. 15 games.

was this a joke? mlb players take off all sorts of games, pitchers only play 1 in 5, and DHs play consists of swinging three times once in an hour. i guess some nba players only play defense, so maybe that's the equivalent?
