If they missed the deadline then refuse the service. Their item expired.

If not, quit your bitching. Do your job. Your job isn't to make sure your customer can schedule a trip at the ideal time for YOU to perform the service you offer. Sometimes you don't catch fish. Sucks for them.

why do you just arbitrarily take the angle opposing me?

Thing is, I don't want to be some stickler about a donated trip, and try to impose some expiration date. Imma take him out and make it a good time either way.

I guess what bugs me is, if he knew all along he didn't wanna do the trip during the time recommended up front, then why'd yall even bid?

If he was an expert fisherman then he wouldn't need you.

If it isn't a seasonal service you provide then you just sound whiny. If it is a seasonal service then seems pretty simple to tell him he missed the seasonal service window.

What if optimal fishing date wasn't at the top of his priority list? And why does it matter?

You probably can't (or shouldn't) impose a deadline now if you didn't say there was a deadline initially. To me, it sounds mostly like YOU don't want to do it because YOU won't seem like a good fishing guide because they don't catch as mang fish as YOU know YOU could during prime season.

I hesitate to jump in, for no good reason....But here's how it seems to play out. I could be wrong, but this is how it comes across.

donated time to look good

didn't want to actually do it

calls the guy that bought his donated time (assuming this was for a cause that Q wanted to support) a "tourist asshole".....who else was going to buy it? A wook local who can already fish?

comes here to moan about it

heavy on talk, light on action.

Very telling.

...but I am sure he's got an overly in depth story about why it's totally warranted.

Say the schedule wasn't just a suggestion by the guide, but a matter of state fishing regulations, and the season had a hard end date. And yall declare you'd still rather do it after the season's over anyway. How's that convo gonna go with the wildlife officer?

Haha. Then the season is over. Tell the guy. Don't guide the trip because it is against the law. Pretty simple.

Speaking of acting entitled.

Holy shit.

It's you acting entitled. Not the tourist asshole.

You should get out of the service industry. Seems like a bad fit.

"Hi, I'd like to book a dinner reservation tonight."

sounds good sir, we'd be glad to host you. Our one available opening for tonight is at 6:30pm.

"OK, I'll be there at 8."

That's not what happened though.

You suggested a time.

It's more like:

Tourist asshole: "Hi I'd like a dinner reservation at 8 tonight"

Entitled service industry worker: "dinner is actually better at 6:30"

Tourist asshole: "sorry 8 works better for us"

Entitled service industry worker: "ok" (runs to messageboard to whine to strangers that someone didn't listen to their suggestion)

oh, that's how it happened? Then show me where the tourist asshole requested a time up front.

If he had done so at the auction, and said "I can't do this trip until the end of September," I would have suggested yall bid on another item.
Deleted User 863

Re: Totally random thread

Post by Deleted User 863 »

The point is that you didn't do that. You suggested a time. You didn't place an expiration date on the item being bidded on. Otherwise we know damn well you'd have told him so that you didn't have to provide the service you donated.

So is there a lawful seasonal wildlife deadline he missed? Or you going to keep changing your story?

He didn't request a time up front. And neither did you. You suggested the time you "thought" was the best time.

Refund his money if you don't want to do it. You're the whiny asshole in this story, not the other guy.

This isn't my job, it's something I donated for a good cause! How is that entitled?

It's not like I'm just trying to hose him for his money, I'm trying to just show him a good time. For the sake of the cause, I'd rather show him a good time so he bids again, and/or tells all his friends what a good time he had, so it can continue to be an effective item for fundraising. Now he's prone to going and whining to all his other asshole tourist friends about how he got ripped off by yall's nonprofit auction.

This is precisely the kind of logic exhibited by tourists who go to Yellowstone in the winter, then go complain at the ranger station like "but we wanna see bears, whadyall mean they're hibernating, can't yall just go wake em up for us?"

No. This is nothing like tourists whining at yellowstone during the winter because bears are hibernating. Nothing at all.

You're a grown man. Don't do it if you don't want to.

Stop thinking you are a victim. You're just an entitled whiner.

Sounds like you should have said "if we don't do this before early September then I AM NOT HONORING the item you bidded on". Say that upfront and all your problems are solved. It's September 15th. Or say it now and refund the money to this "good cause".

is the season over? thats a whole different dynamic to the conversation that wasn't initially a concern.

you specifically spoke of "by early September" for optimal results.

This guy wants to do it early September......

Is the season over or no? Per regulations I mean.

Did this guy know any of the regulations or is he relying on his guide.......who told him....by early September....

that's the thing!

He's just so totally NOT relying on his guide.......who told him....by early September....

so why'd he even bid?

If he wanted to fish early September, he should have had that shit booked by late August. Needless to say, waiting to mid-September to call and book an early September trip ain't gonna work, no matter how entitled yall thing you are. (or am I now supposed to be on call 24/7 for guiding services I donated, plus develop some time travel technology, lest I be labeled as the entitled one?)

but to try for some analogy with legal game and fish seasons, asking again: how's that convo gonna go with the wildlife officer? Think they'll just understand that the dates identified just wasn't as convenient for yall, so yall took the liberty of enjoying some later date instead?

If he still insists on fishing after a season's legally over, could we at least call him entitled then?

Or, if he's at least a decent enough human to respect a legal season close, then why not offer that same basic respect to some poor sap who donated his services to a cause you both care about?

wow, you sound like a bitter little crabapple.

did you tell him how far in advance he needed to book? or did you say we need to go early September? does he have any idea what the regulations are for season close?

is he entitled, or are you? or are perhaps both of you to blame?

if you dont want to take the high bidder and are instead going to insult him for things he may or may not even know...because he's not a local...or a fisherman.....then maybe next time dont offer to donate your services. Sounds like it'd save everybody the hassle.
