Yes, that’s because he’s actually trying to find a way to help rather than telling people to drink bleach, shine UV inside their body or tout unproven therapies.

Have a good afternoon, also
Actually Trump only suggested the idiotic cures for COVID. The media blew it up to make it sound like he wholeheartedly promoted them.
P.S. I had friends(both health professionals) who took Ivermectin and were cured of their COVID.
And I hid in my basement, drank lots of water and caught up on some sleep and was "cured" of my COVID. If you think your dog's Heartgard chewable cures COVID then you're either a sucker or a liar.

I feel he both "suggested and promoted".
"Suggested or not, "promoted" or not, Trump mentioned "idiotic cures" and stated numerous times that the "idiotic cures" work/ed. Therefore, as far as I am concerned, HE (Trump) absolutely BOTH "suggested" and "promoted" "idiotic cures".
As far as your friends taking Ivermectin and being "cured", I sincerely mean this - good for them.
I'm wondering why they chose to take Ivermectin (when there were other drugs available) and if you feel Ivermectin is or isn't an "idiotic cure".
I can't help but wonder if they still would have been "cured" if they ate dog shit instead of taking Ivermectin.

"From March 1 to April 30, 2020, Donald J Trump made 11 tweets about unproven therapies and mentioned these therapies 65 times in White House briefings, especially touting hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine. These tweets had an impression reach of 300% above Donald J Trump’s average. Following these tweets, at least 2% of airtime on conservative networks for treatment modalities like azithromycin and continuous mentions of such treatments were observed on stations like Fox News. Google searches and purchases increased following his first press conference on March 19, 2020, and increased again following his tweets on March 21, 2020. The same is true for medications on Amazon, with purchases for medicine substitutes, such as hydroxychloroquine, increasing by 200%."

"A good working definition of a pandemic is that the disease is 'out of control' in multiple parts of the world, such that cases remain unpredictable and at any time, in any place, a new surge could begin. For the pandemic to be over, we need to have a robust system of COVID monitoring and control. This does not mean that we need to mask forever, or close schools, or apply lockdowns. It does mean that we need transparency on how many people are sick, temporary widespread preventive measures when cases are increasing, and long-term sustainable solutions, such as improved ventilation, increased access to outdoor spaces and fresh air, and reliable disease monitoring and surveillance systems. 𝐈𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐒 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐝. This will only increase the amount of time we live with the uncertainty that a new surge is just ahead of us, and thus the amount of time we are in a pandemic."

I talked to someone who was involved in reviewing some of those contracts after the fact. He said the amounts of money spent on nothing, or on contracts that were set up to screw the military, were astronomical. We will never know how much taxpayer money was burned in that boondoggle.
for the life of me, I struggle to understand how you can be so aware of issues like this when it applies to Afghanistan and Iraq, yet be so stubbornly insistently sure that whatever has been going down in Ukraine is like totally legit despite that.

One difference being, I guess, that Ukraine conflict has a more established and familiar boogeyman. It's not like Iraqistan were long time adversaries, nor imperial threats, nor nuclear powers.

and it's all after the fact, either way. We can only HOPE we get to an after the fact with the Ukraine conflict, when Japhy can then gloat about how he knew it was a rotten corrupt mess all along, and he can tell us how he told us so.

But that all hinges on whether this "the best solution to end war is more war" strategy somehow doesn't blow up in our faces, literally, and result in WW3.

A little better prep work by the Biden team would have gone a long way there. You can't walk in to that situation without a pre-prepared note on your thanks for the work done by the now-deceased rep. Instead, you get nonsense. Dumb move by whoever prepared his speech for that event.

Biden like Trump is human. “To err is human, to forgive, divine”.
They both reach a bit in different ways.

I dunno which thread this goes in...but apparently OPEC is planning on cutting oil production by a million barrels a day.

The white house is scrambling and has already countered by saying that any significant ramp down in production would be seen as a "hostile act".

Could get pretty interesting fairly quickly.....

how many times have dems offer "codify Roe" as some carrot on a stick to pander for votes?

how many times have they had the chance to codify Roe but didn't?

But why codify something that is/was already law? I can already see the argument if they tried this last year - “you want to make something legal that is already legal?”

I’m today’s episode of “global politics is totally fucked:”
The Biden administration is preparing to scale down sanctions on Venezuela’s authoritarian regime to allow Chevron Corp. CVX 2.00%▲ to resume pumping oil there, paving the way for a potential reopening of U.S. and European markets to oil exports from Venezuela, according to people familiar with the proposal.

In exchange for the significant sanctions relief, the government of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro would resume long-suspended talks with the country’s opposition to discuss conditions needed to hold free and fair presidential elections in 2024, the people said. The U.S., Venezuela’s government and some Venezuelan opposition figures have also worked out a deal that would free up hundreds of millions of dollars in Venezuelan state funds frozen in American banks to pay for imports of food, medicine and equipment for the country’s battered electricity grid and municipal water systems.

other than a temporary satiation of our petroleum addiction, seems like a pretty big win for all involved

sanctions don’t really hurt maduro…more so, they hurt the Venezuelan people

yea, sanctions get a lot of criticism cuz of just that.

The "authoritarian regime" rhetoric is interesting too, at least without knowing much about the Maduro and the Venezuelan gummint.

And, while I don't mean to fuss too much about the anti-imperialist shit, I'm at least curious about the whole angle about Venezuelan wealth being frozen in American banks, especially when it's apparently a matter of affording food and medicine and electricity and water.

to my knowledge, that wealth wasn’t providing those things to the people prior to being frozen

that has long been the complaint about Venezuela - all that oil money, but relatively little of it actually improving the lives of most citizens

yea, Venezuela is supposed to be socialist. That checks out with the "authoritarian regime" rhetoric.

Maybe Venezuela is yet another example of how socialism doesn't work. Maybe it's yet another example of how any country who tries socialism gets the sanction treatment from the "free market" types. Maybe, in the context of imperialism, it really is another example of no underdeveloped countries, just overexploited countries.

Maybe it's another example of the global south's wealth and resources being controlled by the global north. How'd Venezuela's wealth end up frozen in American banks? Or end up in American banks in the first place? And why does Chevron get to be the ones pumping all that Venezuelan oil?

Sounds like the Venezuelan gummint has its own issues with corruption and incompetence too, but corruption and incompetence is hardly unique to Venezuela.
