This area is in a high end resort market where pretty much everything is a premium.

And, plot twist:

This is my landlord asking him to paint his deck for him.

And he did it in the same conversation as telling me he’s raising rent…again.

So if he’s getting a bigger number out of me then why shouldn’t I at least try for a bigger number out of him?

Cuz yea TDub, like you said, how times have changed. EVERYTHING is more expensive now.

And also, how risky is this work? Crawling up ladders and such.

If it’s under the table and I get hurt is he on the hook?

Cuz even for 30 an hour, I dunno if I wanna pursue a side hustle that ups my chances of of potentially facing tens of thousands in medical bills.

I would never do this, but if you get quoted at a low rate, you can take a bit more time and 'gain' that money back. ;0

I mean, do whatever you want. I dont think 20/hr tax free is a bad offer.

Yea, I also thought about just rounding up my time, like so many professionals do anyway.

It’s also working with some handyman buddy of his tho

Cuz this dood never just goes out and hires a proper professional, he’s always just “got a guy”

how would we possible know that? you're the only one that's seen the deck.....

look man...do it if you want to make some money, don't do it if you're scared of falling.

Simple, make a decision and move on with your day.

Beav takes care of the landlord’s hot tub.

He charged $100 to drain and clean and fill it.

The landlord threw a fit about it. But! That same service provided by any of the hot tub companies up here is $200

Next up:
Landlords are the scourge of the earth and just take advantage of people and land should be split equally amongst the globe and everyone should earn exactly the same amount of money no matter their skillset because it is fair.

yea, thats about right for a professional who is licensed, bonded and insured...with experience, their own equipment, etc.

also bill at doesnt mean they take home that wage, what they bill at is wage + burden. (i know you know that defix, that was a clarification for Q, not you...)

Settle down, Illy.

If you’d really like to discuss it, your take is hyperbolic even by Q standards.

It’s simply that perhaps housing should be treated more like a basic human need, and less like just another investment opportunity.

But go figure we value capitalist prerogative more than we value not letting people freeze to death.

whats more capitalist than complaining about the wage offered to perform an optional job? A thread dedicated to negotiate a bigger chunk of pie for your minimal portion of work...

youre gonna not love the commune so much

Actually, there really isn’t anything much more capitalist than a capitalist complaining about a worker who wants to get fair market value for his labor.

I've explained my position multiple times. I wouldn't pay someone without proper experience and tools more than 20/hr.

I wouldn't pay them 20/hr actually.

In all honestly I wouldn't pay them anything because I wouldn't want them to do the work.

That being said, I think 20/hr is completely fair for this particular job.

Then maybe there’s some question of, if the guy wants a rate less than one with the proper experience and tools, then is he gonna be satisfied with a job that’s less than “proper” too?

Cuz I admit, I’m no painting professional!

I have different rates for different things that I do.
I'm inexperienced in a couple things that I really like doing but I charge less because I don't have the experience. Maybe the person hiring me is getting a deal, but they are taking that risk, and in the process, I am getting that experience.

Anywho so let’s keep this thread on topic.

Did I mention y’all’s favorite auction winner showed up to the fishing trip decked out in statie purple?
