calimansi and sili peppers are probably what i miss most about the Philippines (food-wise, at least)

a few months ago i finally tried my hand at buko pie. i’ve since modified the recipe for ease and preference, but i absolutely love making it (it usually doesn’t make it through the day). it’s a pain in the ass to process the young coconut though

and discuss the resulting 3-way standoff between me and the landlord and Beav

take the trap off, clean it, if empty, hand snake to main, put trap back on. 15- 20 minutes tops. If only the kitchen sink is backing up then it's obviously in the short stretch from the kitchen drain line to the main.

I agree it should be the landlords problem to fix. However, 20 minutes fixing it vs however long fighting about it.....just a thought.

already checked the P trap. That much is clear. The clog seemed to be further down than that.

yea, I'm on team "landlord's problem to fix." that's precisely what we pay him for! And one of the few, if any, silver linings of renting. If it even counts as a silver lining, cuz normally there's lots of backs and forths and various other delays.

Beav's on team "just wanna get it fixed, even if it means spending his own $ and resources." I've told him to not do anything unless the landlord says to first, and to confirm the landlord will reimburse, and keep receipts.

Landlord's on team "why are you guys bothering me, why can't this just fix itself, stop treating me like I own the place just cuz I own the place, why don't you guys just call a plumber, except I don't wanna pay for a plumber, I know a guy who knows a guy who could fix it except he's not calling me back, so you guys just hang tight in the meantime and pretend an OOO kitchen sink isn't such a big deal"

Beav at least go the OK via text message to go rent a snake and try to fix it on our own. Here goes!

I recently made buko pandan with just the flavoring extract. But no trees for miles for buko.

rent a snake? a snake to get from kitchen to the house main is $25-30....this is where the story usually takes weird turns.

Rent a snake, unclog the drain, keep the receipts, withhold the costs from your next rent payment and send receipts, wait for the small claims Petition and mark on your credit report. Fun times.

Ugh.

I dunno if this landlord is tactful enough to take it to small claims. He’s the kind of guy who will literally text us “hey I’m having something shipped there, can you remind me the address?”

His end game is just getting the tenants to quit fussing.

But, if push DID come to shove, Beav at least has it in writing that the landlord said, “I don’t wanna deal with it, you guys just go rent a snake and deduct the cost from rent.”

Would that even hold up in court? I know courts tend to be pretty landlord friendly.

That’s why I’ve been on team “let the landlord deal with this” all along, inconveniences to the tenants notwithstanding…

Im doing slightly better this year on my winter prep....hopefully less scrambling as temperatures drop. I got 5 cord of wood split and stacked...and 2.5 more cords split and ready to stack. That oughtta get me through the winter. Its a beautiful thing to see all that wood stacked up so pretty....almost hate to disturb it.

Do you have firewood racks or do you stack by building towers/building in a circle?

Yesterday, I moved half a cord from my yard under my overhang on my garage that keeps the rain and snow off. Have had a couple small fires already to take the edge off.
