the beetle boring just makes the wood more vulnerable to the fungus
this is both true and false. It is the fungus that gives the color. But the fungus is carried by the beetle via some sort of apenditure on its mouth. It isn't a fungus that just travels around and looks for ways it, it is specifically carried into the wood by the beetle. The fungus softens the wood slightly and allows the beetle to more easily chew and bore into the wood to create its nests etc.

now that is fucking cool

always fascinated by symbiotic relationships

somewhat similarly, the “venom” from the blue-ring octopus is derived from symbiotic algae/bacteria (can’t recall which) in its salivary glands that produce tetrodotoxin, the same compound in toxic fugu pufferfish
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

HELSINKI — A venomous 7-foot king cobra that escaped from its home in a Swedish zoo has returned back home by itself, bringing a happy ending to over a week-long disappearance saga.

What’d they do to the Butterfinger recipe? The inside is just one chalky block of sugar.

Get off my lawn.

I haven’t had a Butterfinger in years.

But as much as I’d like to spend the night snickering to candy puns, I’ve got bigger things to discuss with you guys.

So I bought this beard trimmer just now at the grocery store. I didn’t notice it at the self-checkout, but apparently it’s got this random security device on it. These tiny cables wrapped around it but so low profile it’s hard to even really notice. I have the receipt either way.

Should I even bother going back to the store about it?

What happens if I just cut it off? Is it gonna beep real loud, or explode some goo all over me?

If it starts beeping I could prob just like smash it with a rock to shut it up right?

What if I just cut the package around it so the security device comes off undamaged?

Does this count as gutter’s 5 questions of the day?

Bonus question: are there really this many people stealing beard trimmers?

1. No

3. Yes
4. Go for it.
5. No, yes. I don't know.
Bonus question answer = yes.

In keeping with the ousy question theme.....
5 questions (and a bonus question.

1. I came home from work and there was some creepy dude in my building lobby handing out candy. I would guess he is about 65 years old. He was wearing a costume that I couldn't tell if he was an angel or a Tele Tubby. Regardless, I took a mini Twix from him. I just ate it. What are the odds there is/was Fentanyl in it?
2. There was a separate big candy bowl that the building management put out and it had different candy than this guy had. So who t.f. was he and why was he wearing a costume and handing out candy?
3. Do you think the guy knows Paul Pelosi?
4. Do you think the guy was a KSU alum?
5. My sister's birthday is today. As a kid she had birthday parties. Kids would come in their costumes. My parents served birthday cake. WHY - and as a kid would you rather eat candy or cake on Halloween?

1. Break up with her

3. I said break up not break skulls!
4. Yea
5. Maybe if it’s Halloween themed cake

1. Slim to none
2. Maybe he has special needs. Maybe he just really likes halloween. At least he isn't out murdering or raping people.
3. No
4. No
5. As a kid I'd rather eat both than one or the other. Your parents were very considerate for not making her birthday all about halloween. Most kids like birthday cakes and candles. Halloween and her birthday can both be celebrated without sacrificing anything.

have we discussed shoelaces yet? I was thinking about maybe tying my boots tomorrow

What knot do you guys use?

do I do the loops first and then tie them together or do I go over under and then loop and the the loose string around the loops and thumb and pull it through?

if I dont tie my shoelaces am I gonna fall off the roof?

if I just get rid of the shoelaces are my boots gonna fall off?

if I accidentally tie the wrong laces together am I gonna trip and fall and hurt myself?

gawwdd why is this so hard?
So. many. questions. Maybe ill just not go to work tomorrow so I dont have to face the shoelaces dilemma.

Simple basic knot. I think.

I do not do loops first.

Probably not - but possibly.

Maybe.

Probably.

It's not that hard if you don't overthink it. Just do what comes naturally.

Stayed at the house at 1700 Mississippi in Lawrence that was built and lived in by Dr. James Naismith last night so that was a fun experience.
