He’s been doing a great job of that for many years without any assistance from the media, thank you very much.StayCurious wrote: ↑Mon Oct 31, 2022 2:16 pmDon't worry, the media will use all they can to make Musk look like a racist, dangerous hate speech advocate.randylahey wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 11:43 am Its good to limit actual hate speech. oh, excuse me. Would you like to provide a better example of what you meant when you you mentioned "hate speech" and "disinformation" in the context of covid?

Ugh. Hate speech IS protected by 1A.
Of course, that really has nothing to do with twitter regulating its platform.

Re: Facebook, Google, et al
how's that work?
It's protected by 1A but can still be used as evidence against you in a hate crime trial if you display a confederate flag on your truck and drop N-bombs as you chase and gun down a jogger, for instance?

Yes. Hate speech won't be precluded from evidence in a hate crime trial. I'm sure there are requirements there, nexus, etc. You're still punishing action, not words. Also if the words rise to the level of an immediate and true threat, then words themselves are not protected--very narrow, though.

But this is all to say that, good on LeBron and Elon for shedding light on important topics. However, since we are not trying to win a drawing a bad foul call contest or build an overpriced electric plastic car, let's get someone else to weigh in.

Was gonna put this in the Kanye thread, but seems to fit well here too

Covid disinformation = using common sense to come up with basic assumptions that go against the mainstream political covid narrative.
Only to have them admit it 6 months later when the data backs up basic common sense

People shouldn't be hateful. But if someone wants to say dumb hateful things and make themselves look like an asshole, so be it. The only person they are truly hurting is themselves

I mostly agree, but then look at Nick Sandmann. The media lied about him and he was able to sue for millions. Someone says hateful things on twitter, no big deal. If the entire media is out to lie and slander you, that's something else.randylahey wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 10:52 am People shouldn't be hateful. Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Selective outrage. The "bad guys" can't use it, but use good guys can.randylahey wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 12:40 pm Why does lebron care who uses the n word? A lot the rappers he is friends with use it in their music all the time
