Only saving grace is the veto power of Uncle Joe, so they’re unlikely to create lasting damage (hopefully). But it won’t stop them from showboating.

I hate this stuff. It's the kind of populist crap I'd expect from Trump. There's usually a pretty good reason for fees. If not, let competition come and deliver the service without the fees and let people choose. If competition can't do that due to uncompetitive practices, that's where the Government should have a role. But price controls on non-essential stuff? That's anti-progress.

I like ticketmaster. Having to go to a box office to get tickets for everything is a pain in the ass. If you don't like the fees you can still do that. Meanwhile Ticketmaster built a platform that enables the convenience of ticket self service from home. That platform costs a lot of money to build and maintain, so people who use it should pay for it. Unless you want them to just hide the fees within the ticket prices - but then you're still paying the fee, you just don't know it. They're vilifyed for their transparency.

Businesses screwing over businesses directly, by doing something other than providing a better service/price/experience, in order to keep them out of the market is what should be punished, yes. Because that results in everyone getting screwed, most notably the customers.

When you go directly after things like prices and fees, the customer gets screwed. No fees equals you needing to go to the ticket office, or these fees just being hidden. Or say with banking fees, the costs just get spread to all other customers - those who didn't spend more than they have. And it increases the number of people that will spend more than they have, so it'll be a higher overall cost.

I don't have a problem with a third party platform charging service fees for using their services. I have a problem with the actual venue charging you a service fee for buying their tickets (looking at you KU).

Why would KU charge $33.00 and then add a (plus $4.00 per ticket fee) instead of just charging $37.00 for the ticket and adding no fee?
Only thing that comes to mind is maybe there is a law that makes them declare they are charging a fee that is going to the school/city/state?
