no, not really.
Bush was mostly just looking for oil.
That, and some cowboy vendetta against the dood who tried to kill his daddy.
Re: Another mass shooting
This is El Paso County.
In the two years before this weekend’s mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs, Sheriff Bill Elder of surrounding El Paso County stridently opposed a 2020 “red flag” law that authorizes the courts to bar dangerous individuals from possessing or purchasing firearms.
“I am exploring all available legal options and am committed to vigorously challenging the constitutionality of this law,” Elder said in April 2019.
Elder was also vocal in supporting an anti-red flag resolution passed unanimously by county commissioners. What is officially known as the Second Amendment Preservation Resolution declares El Paso to be a “Second Amendment preservation county.” It describes Elder as “a staunch promoter of the Second Amendment,” noting he had issued in excess of 45,500 concealed carry permits, “more than any other Sheriff in the state.”
As recounted by the 2021 El Paso County Sheriff’s news release, deputies arrested Aldrich last June for two counts of felony menacing and three counts of first-degree kidnapping. It all began when Aldrich’s mother called to allege that he had threatened her with “a homemade bomb, multiple weapons and ammunition.” The sheriff’s news release says Aldrich initially refused to surrender. In a Facebook Live video recorded inside a house where his mother was renting a room, he can be heard taunting law enforcement, talking about dying as the surrounding residences were evacuated. He finally emerged from the house with his hands raised and was taken into custody.
For reasons the authorities have not explained, charges against Aldrich were dropped, and there were no felony arrests on his record that would have prevented him from passing a background check to buy firearms. But Elder’s office still could have sought an Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) as provided by the red flag law.
Dippyshit yes, but no hippy. And the kid's grandfather is Randy Voepel, MAGA Republican State Assemblyman in Cali. All of the red seems to have aligned for this kid to keep on keeping on.

Nice work Japhy! I was in the process of doing some research myself.
Only things I'll add are that once again I admit I have trouble deciding if MICH just may be intelligent and much of what he posts is trolling or if he is an uneducated/clueless ______ - and he just doesn't know any better. I think most of us are probably right to assume the later.
The current District Attorney is a Republican and he was sworn in in 2021.
His predecessor was a Republican. Right?
My guess is neither are "hippy dippy snowflakes".

Re: Another mass shooting
That would be one way to whitewash the actions of the Bush-Cheney Crime Family. How else do you describe a weapon whose sole purpose is to kill as many people as possible in a short period? You’re not going to resort to the “may be he was intending to go deer hunting” lunacy, are you?
Re: Another mass shooting
to call it a weapon of mass destruction is hyperbole and devalues an otherwise defensable and, in my opinion, fairly reasonable argument against high capacity magazines.zsn wrote: ↑Tue Nov 22, 2022 6:13 pmThat would be one way to whitewash the actions of the Bush-Cheney Crime Family. Re: Another mass shooting
You're just changing the definition of a term. That's Goebbels shit right therezsn wrote: ↑Tue Nov 22, 2022 6:13 pmThat would be one way to whitewash the actions of the Bush-Cheney Crime Family. Re: Another mass shooting
So the objection is to the capitalization of a weapon of mass destruction?!?! Again, some of the weapons used to massacre innocents are intended to kill as many people as possible in a very short period. That’s the definition of a weapon of mass destruction (lower case) - literally.
If you both still object I’ll reluctantly withdraw the use of that term, but the broader point remains - the “system” allowed a known criminal to acquire a killing machine

Re: Another mass shooting
Yes, changing the meaning of terms is purely rhetorical. It's propaganda. WMDs are a specific thing and communicate a specific meaning.
Re: Another mass shooting
more hyperbole. That type of egregious inflation of term is meant to whip up a frenzy and is not conducive to actual discussion and reform. People stop listening and dismiss your entire point when they have to wade through the over the top nonsense.

Re: Another mass shooting
So far actual discussion has resulted in nothing but more deaths by assault weapons. I'm ok with hyperbole at this point.
Defense. Rebounds.
Re: Another mass shooting
And right on cue. Mass shooting at a Walmart in VA. Multiple fatalities. WTF is wrong with us?

Re: Another mass shooting
To Mjl and TDub (and others), serious question.
Regardless of what you define as a weapon of mass destruction, why do you take issue with someone feeling a gun specifically designed to shoot many people rapidly isn't a "weapon of mass destruction" when it is used to shoot multiple people rapidly?
You don't believe that the guns used in Las Vegas/Paradise Nevada, Orlando Florida, Sutherland Springs Texas, El Paso Texas, Uvalde Texas, Parkland Florida (where a co-worker of mine was in school and witnessed the shootings), Highland Park Illinois (where a family friend was shot and killed and another one was shot and lost her foot) etc., etc,. etc. caused "mass destruction"?
Tell that to those who were there and/or lost loved ones and my guess is most will beg to differ.
God forbid you are ever witness to a mass shooting done by someone who used an assault gun/rifle. If you are/were, maybe you would be a little less hesitant to harp on someone who feels an assault weapon that has been used to kill multiple people is a WMD? Maybe not.
P.S. The U.S. military and legal definitions are subject to interpretation but an "assault weapon" very well may be considered a weapon of mass destruction under those definitions.
Moving on......
Lookie what we have here kids. Just another day/night/morning in America.
Walmart. Virginia. Supposedly the manager was the shooter.

Re: Another mass shooting
Call it whatever you want, in my opinion. I don't consider them WMDs. But I think it's okay if you do.
Mjl and TDub bring up valid points.

Re: Another mass shooting
Probably a bad analogy but for safety reasons when I was 16 and just starting to drive, my father reminded me that a car is a killing machine. Huh?
Well, I may or may not not agree but I can't/won't say was he absolutely wrong for feeling that way.
Perhaps if he said CAN BE a killing machine I would agree with that 100%.
Moving on......
Isn't it great how many Pubs are ecstatic that the Colorado shooter identifies as being non-binary?
They were in the defense/deflection mode because they thought it was a "hate crime" and many of them have fanned the flames in regards to hatred towards LGBTQ people.
On the flip side, the Dems have to be upset that their narrative is/wasn't true.
Or was it? Regardless, the shooter had enough anger and hatred in him/her/it to shoot innocent people.
Sure would be nice if everyone focused on the real problem and not make assumptions based on what they want to believe.

This is a lot more of the interview. Disturbing and sad to me.
