if it were up to me KANSAS, ksu, whichita st and misery would all gather at the sprint center every december for a holiday extravaganza doubleheader. one year we play misery. the next we play whichita st.

Q:

you're not wrong for feeling how you feel. Not wanting to play them ever again is a valid opinion.

Yes, AFH always has a great atmosphere....but there levels to it. It is absolutely NOT the same every night. I am not old enough to speak on what it was like back in the day, but over the last 20-25 years there have been 5 or so games where it was absolutely different. Louder. More energy. And obviously the flow of the game plays a part. But if people listed the loudest games they've attended over that time frame I think there would be a lot of similar answers. New Years Day OT thriller against GT comes to mind. A couple mizzou games. A kentucky game.

And all the reasons you listed as why you don't want to play them are exactly why i DO want to play them. And kick their ass. Like we usually do.

illy, just pick one straight up. which do you think is the better college hoops atmosphere:

AFH even for a relative snoozer of a game by AFH standards

- or -

any basketball game at all in CoMo BESIDES when KU's in town?

What a weird question. Too silly to even bother to answer. You're all over the place.

ousdahl wrote: Thu Dec 01, 2022 1:03 pm yea, you're right, it's not the same. It never has been.

Other noncon bottom feeders DON'T make fun of our players for their moms passing away unexpectedly, DON'T sabotage the entire conference, DON'T have rivalry roots in literal guerrilla warfare, etc.

and bro, the atmosphere and ticket prices from last year's game in AFH are not unique to last year's game. AFH is ALWAYS the elite college hoops atmosphere regardless. The only time that Columbia even has a college hoops atmosphere at all is when KU is in town. Why afford them that?

Not to mention things like, at least some other noncon bottom feeders have actually been to a final four before
I've been to a few dead games at AFH. It's not always elite. But it always gets elite when the team needs it to be elite.

I was firmly against playing Mizzou for several years but it doesn't bother me now. Let a new generation of KU students and fans enjoy hating Mizzou and cheering for KU to kick their ass. I certainly enjoyed watching KU crush their dreams of beating us. Now my daughter gets to reminisce about Teahan hitting a three to get to 100 while whooping Mizzou's ass. It doesn't mean as much to me now that the two teams are not in the same conference but it still means more than beating North Dakota or Seton Hall.

Any more, it just feels like trying to draw lines on whether we should play Mizzou or not just seems like lame attempts at winning an internal "whose the better fan" competition. Meh.

Udeh and Zuby have to learn how to play defense without fouling.

I am actually surprised to see, prior to last night (stats site doesn't update instantly), Udeh was only averaging 4.5 fouls per 40min. Seems like it'd be a lot higher.

Zuby however was averaging 7.2 fouls per 40.

So it's a race to see which can happen first:

Can Udeh/Zuby learn to defend without fouling or can KJ find ways to score inside?

I do like that those 3 are all different skill set wise.

I am officially done with Clemence for now. He's so soft inside and plays weak defense. And for being a shooter, he isn't shooting well yet.

Clemence needs minutes for confidence. We know he can play.

His strength is that he's supposed to be a stretch 4/5.
He's now shooting 29.4% from the field and 19.4% from 3.
That ain't gonna work out. Seems like a good keed. Not looking like he's ever going to play tho.

Personally, I don't think he is nearly quick enough to play stretch 4. I hope he continues to improve and proves me wrong.

Before the season I had extremely high hopes for him, but those have quickly faded.

He doesn't have post moves, not a good rebounder, not a good interior defender.
So he's gotta be able to shoot - and I thought that's what he'd do this season.
So far, not so much.

Effort is maybe even more concerning. Twice last night that was evident. First was a shitty post feed from Jalen - but Clemence made zero attempt to either seal his man or go for the ball. Second was on a loose ball near the basket on the defensive end where he just stood in the paint and watched the Seton Hall player grab the ball, and by that time he was too far away to defend the easy basket.

My guess is Self is more upset by those than the missed shots

I had really high hopes for clemence. Last season in brief minutes he'd come in splash 3s and I recall him fighting for thought rebounds. He almost seems worse this year. Shot hasn't been falling and he hasn't looked confident. I expected him to have a big head start on the freshman to start the season. Hes not far from falling out of the rotation and self starts to tighten it

Clemence will probably transfer and be a good player on a slightly smaller stage

Thought rebounds. That is our strength. Clemence has had some good minutes in a non-traditional smaller lineup. He is pressing too hard and playing sped-up in the language of Self. He will be fine.
