I do like his ink tho.

But yea, while KJ is a killer matchup against teams like miz, at some point we’re gonna need our bigs to actually be big
we playin' purdue anytime soon?

Finals week, so should be a nice relaxing week for our players with no games and a lot of video gaming.

Been thinking for awhile that IU was a near certain loss on the schedule, but perhaps with the week off and a raucous Fieldhouse, we take it home.

So updated depth chart looks like:

Bobby is ahead of Yes. Rice is behind both.

Zuby is ahead of Udeh and Clemence.

It's just stupid that we need to pick a guy to bury, every single year, and it's Rice this year. If he's not doing his part in practice or whatever, than just don't dress him. Otherwise, fucking play him, Bill.

Feels like Udeh is that guy more than Rice to me, but I get what you're saying.

Rice, I am going to assume, has been at a disadvantage due to his limited practice availability until the last few weeks.

Feels like this is now locked, barring injury...

Is this the most "Jrs" we've had on 1 roster?

So, Udeh is just completely lost. He's got the physical attributes but early on it was clear that he's just two steps behind on the mental part of the game.

Self said after Indiana that both Zuby and Clemence were going to play, but Zuby was so good that Self had to apologize to Clemence for not getting him more run.

But the takeaway there might be that, in a game against a team that plays big and wants to bang down low in the halfcourt, there was zero plan to play Udeh. I'm not giving up on Udeh yet, but Zuby just knows his role so well and Clemence is going to have less mental lapses.

And also, counterpoint, maybe Bill should just f-n play Udeh and let the talent learn on the job.

And Rice. Yesufu on Saturday not even looking at the rim when he was wide open from the top-of-the-key perimeter with over half the shot clock gone was major wtf.

I have a really hard time believing that Self wants to play Clemence. He's looked worse than all of them.

Maybe he's trying to do some media motivation to Udeh? Not sure.

We only need 2 bigs. KJ and 1 other. If it's Zuby, I am fine with that. Although he looks about as lost as Udeh. Zuby is big strong and can rebound, which I like.

But, full disclosure, I've given up on Clemence. Just don't see a 5 in him. He's a stretch 4 offensively on a team with elite stretch 4s. And he's too slow to defend 4s. And too weak to defend the types of 5s that in theory would be matchup problems for KJ. Just a bad fit/timing with the roster.

Rock Chalk Blog also hates Clemence, so between that and Illy, I'm betting big on him and Bill figuring it out second semester. Would almost guarantee there will be a conference game or two where he comes up with some huge plays. Like last season vs. OU, and we'll see the Groves again.

Udeh's the most lost player on the team by a good margin. Sometimes that gets figured out, sometimes it takes an offseason. I think he's just trying to do way too much. Just figure out the defensive rotations and ball screen assignments and the rest will come.

I sort of feel like if KJ is playing close to 30mpg then how bad can Udeh fuck up in those limited minutes?

And Rice has looked (relatively) good, I think, compared to Yesufu.

Maybe those 2 aren't giving effort in practice?

Clemence is rusty as Hell. People keep throwing him under the bus, but he was left outside over winter without a cover.

Pretty much any game can be lost in 10 minutes, so there's plenty to fuck up.

It's also less about minutes to me than it is to match up with different teams' styles. Udeh not playing against mizzou, I get that. But, IU should have been a game where Udeh was a big asset for us. Instead, based on 2 weeks of practice, Self had Zuby and Clemence ahead of him on the depth chart. If Udeh's not getting any run against UK at the end of January, it might be time to look at Zuby as our only true big man.

the rookies are about 6 weeks into their rookie season. MICHHAWK will give the kids their time to grow and develop.

If one or two high profile recruits isn't panning out that's on them as individuals.

If an entire bench of high profile recruits isn't being productive that's on Self. Especially with half of them being in their second year.

Yeah I think its a little soon to write off mj rice or udeh. I bet both will still have some role come end of the season

Pettiford/yesefu are just ahead of mj right now.

And ejiafor is good. Hes beating out udeh. Udeh might be a little more athletic but I can't name anything he for sure does better right now

We have this argument every season. Freshman just aren't always that ready to produce. There is more to basketball than being athletic

Self expects a lot from his players on both sides of the ball. Experience does well in self system

And if you look at all of selfs best teams, its the experienced ones that win championships and make final 4s. Not ones that depend on a bunch of freshman. Not sure why people get so obsessed with recruiting stars
