And in case you haven't noticed, we have a freshman playing a ton of minutes and playing high level basketball. Dick came in a lot more ready to produce tho. Udeh and rice aren't playing because they aren't that good yet

the children not only have to grow and develop as players. they now have to concern with representation. accountants. lawyers. publicists. agents of nil. sure they don't have to worry about academics. but they have a whole new plate full of other concerns that can distract.

(It is here I note, a-fucking-gain, that Blue Chips and The Program were released in 1994 and 1993, respectively. Whatever issues folks have with amateurism and/or the academic rigor of student-athlete live...those issues have been able to drink and even rent cars for quite some time now.)

some of those kids had to *work* 1 hour in the drive thru to *earn* their 15 grand. that hour could have been spent on the court working on their game.

I have to hand it to you, it takes skill and dedication - even a type of singular genius, really - to pick perhaps the WORST possible time to fret about how our guys are spending their time away from the court.

As a friend pointed out yesterday, the tickets to Thursday night will be damn near free and the barn will be quite empty, relatively.

I do question the timing of the game. But, as Mich says, this allows our elite students to study for next semester and possibly master another foreign language rather than be bothered by the hoi polloi in the field house.

There have been several schedule oddities this season.

Why did we have 9 days off between Seton Hall and Mizzou but we played a game 3 days after we got back from 3 straight games in the Bahamas?

Why the hell did we schedule the biggest non-con home game after Winter break started?

We usually do have a game right before xmas, so I can't criticize too much that 1. it can't be on a Saturday this year and 2. no way to predict the record breaking low temps coming Thursday night. But maybe Friday would have been the better night for attendance.

Friday is what we normally would have seen. But I was scratching my head too after the SH game appeared. That was an exhausted team before the Tennessee game and you didn't even need to know the matchups to question not having some recovery time. Dodged a bullet really.

MJ rice could be very good by the end of the year. Hes had a weird start with minor injuries, being sick, missing time etc. But you can tell he is learning and improving.

Oozing potential. His athletic ability off the bench could be big for us. Size energy defense and attacking the boards and rim.

Posted in the game thread, but what does everyone think in terms of if and/or when Udeh’s window is closed for this season?

I hope it’s not. He’s been so lost, but still, I don’t want to see Cam over him. That makes no sense to me unless you think Cam makes you better down the stretch of this season.

Cam is still an unknown to me. Hes big strong and skilled tho. Just zero experience at d1 level and idk how his defense is

Udeh started day 1 as a freshman. And might be 5th on our depth chart at center right now. Our post rotation is strange. Our clear cut best center right now (KJ) isn't a center and it feels like zuby is making himself the clear 2nd option

Then at the moment udeh might be behind cam and zach

I think Udeh should be playing more but I just really don’t care to argue about it.

Hes our longest and most athletic player. Thats a good case in itself for him to get some playing time to keep developing

But he also looks lost. And isn't actually good at anything yet. Big 12 teams aren't gonna let him get easy lob dunks like he did to open the season

Zuby has looked "ok", but Udeh Cam and Clemence haven't looked good in their limited minutes.

This is not a team with quality depth that is ready to contribute. At least not yet.

I have hope for Zuby and Udeh, this season. Not so much for Clemence and Cam. This season or moving forward.

Add KJ to the list of people who we can't afford to pick up any cheap fouls. He's been awesome for us. Timely scoring. Good defense. Good situational awareness. I am totally fine with him at the 5. Which wasn't the case 2 months ago.

I think our starters will continue to need to ALL play 30mpg+. As many minutes as possible with our main 5 out there. Then hope for servicable games from whichever other big Self is rewarding with minutes in that particular game + steady play from Yes and Bobby. That's our normal 8 man rotation, but with significantly less minutes than usual for our 6th guy (bobby or yes).

Zuby is coming along. Solidifying as #2 option.

Udeh doesn't have much of a chance with the limited minutes he's getting. Must look as bad in practice as in games.

Clemence doesn't look like he's improving. He's really not a true 5 as he is a stretch 4. We really can't use a stretch 4 with our talented wings and no true 5 at this point.

Cam still may come along considering his injury not only prevented game time but practice as well. He has the experience to know how to use his body to get position.

Gotta love the effort KJ gives plus is becoming more of a threat to score.

Trying to think of a player that played so sparingly through December and ended up playing meaningful bench minutes at the end of the season. Frankamp maybe? Possibly Jamari in a season where someone got hurt?

Eh, I agree that Bill brought Oubre on slowly (too slowly, really), but he played a ton in December. https://www.espn.com/nba/player/gamelog ... basketball

Unfortunately, Udeh is feeling closer to a Diallo situation.
