Oubre
Oubre moved into the starting rotation on Dec. 20th and stayed there.

Silvio DeSousa in 2018 is a perfect example. He had just 1 game with more than 7 minutes played prior to March and then 8 games with 10+ minutes in March.

Respectfully, I very much disagree with this.

We technically can't possibly know how much De Sousa would have played in November, December and early January. But, given his quick learning curve in the 2nd semester and the lack of front court depth on that team, I think it's a pretty safe assumption he would have seen much more clock than Udeh has.

I guess I forgot he wasn't even available to play early. He was just the first that came to mind as a late season bench revelation.

Yeah, he even played a handful of high school games in December. Can't think of another time that has happened.

Would love it if Udeh is that 2nd semester revelation, though. I like Zuby, he knows and plays his role, but there just doesn't seem to be a lot of upside there for this season.

Udeh will be really good his junior season.

Yep. Udeh just seems like one of those raw, athletic bigs that Self turns into an all-conference monster. Thomas Robinson-ish.

I think that given KJ's improvement, Dajuan's ability to consistently take and make layups and floaters is considerably more important than a back-up 5 emerging this season.

I wonder how much the issue is simply “backup 5” versus “legit size big who can be some more effective counter to elite big/s we’re likely to encounter at some point, especially if we’re gonna go on any sorta run

This is my concern as well, but if I had to guess at this point, I'd say Clemence would be most likely to seek PT elsewhere.

Yes. I think Clemence is gone after this year. Which is unfortunate. He seems like a great kid. Just behind some guys he'll never be able to pass (mainly KJ).

Agreed. KU needs to figure out how to shoot free throws and to avoid so many dumb turnovers. That will improve the likelihood of reaching their ceiling far more than Udeh figuring some things out a little quicker.

Clemence is probably better suited to getting heavy minutes at a "lower level" school. Udeh is so raw still. I hope they both stick with KU as there is still very reasonable paths to being key contributors to national contenders at some point in their careers. Mitch freaking Lightfoot mattered last season.

I think clemence could excel at a big school. Just not one that asks him to play center. But there are plenty of schools that still use a power forward

Jalen 2022:
29.4 MPG
11.1 PPG
7.4 RPG
1.8 APG
.9 SPG
.4 BPG
46.1% FG
26.3% 3FG
72.2% FT
ORtg: 115.3 points scored per 100 poss
DRtg: 94.8 points allowed per 100 poss
.172 Win Shares per 40 minutes

McCullar 2023
30.8 MPG
11.5 PPG
7.7 RPG
1.9 APG
2.7 SPG
.8 BPG
45.9% FG
34.1% 3FG
76.7% FT
ORtg: 101.1 points scored per 100 poss
DRtg: 83.4 points allowed per 100 poss
.170 Win Shares per 40 minutes

So, other than turnovers, McCullar is an upgrade over last year's Jalen, but makes up for it by being a way better defender.

The difference this year, though, is that 2022 Jalen was 5th amongst our main rotation players in points per 100 possessions.

McCullar this season is 3rd in points per 100 possessions amongst our main rotation if you don't count Rice.

JW and Dick named to Wooden Award watch list
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

My concern now is that it seems like we've only played 1 legitimate top 10 team (and got smoked).

The resume is going to be there for a 1 seed. For me, next two months will be telling as to if we are a contender or not. I like the team a lot more now that most of the team quickly settled into their roles.

while i can appreciate your point, we’ve also got the most quad 1 wins of anyone (i think)

Yes, I knew that would be brought up. Goes to my point about a great resume, but I still have to wonder how we match up with other elite, talented teams.

Seems like we are playing, and beating, teams that are somewhere around KenPom 20 to KenPom 50.
