This is maybe a more specific post for OU game, but I'm loving the KJ vs Tanner Groves potential matchup.

He'll go down low I'm sure as opposed to sitting out on perimeter like he did when Dave and Mitch had to guard him in the past, but KJ is athletic and strong enough to make life difficult for him tomorrow night.

It was either that game or the one before where we had to play CB at the 5 b/c we were so short on big guys.

Always thought people made too much out of Groves's performance. While Groves played well, Dave and Jalen were relearning how to breathe during that game.

KJ should eat his lunch.

Pretty sure a recruiting guy on a national site said this too.

Except KJ isn't fat.
And can put up 20 points.

I'm curious to know if KJ's camp will demand his PT come at the 4 next year. b/c he's turning into the perfect modern small ball 5 at this level. Tremendous passer and strong enough to not be a complete liability on D.

I don't think KJ or "his camp" seem like those type of people. He's been a role player his entire HS and college career. Either way, Self doesn't take demands from players.

Not sure why they'd demand that anyway. KJ isn't going to the NBA any time soon.

If that's your main takeaway, you're just looking for an argument. But it has happened several times under Self. It's true that some have just left, Thompson and Grimes being recent examples. Perry stayed. Frankamp cried.

And, of course KJ is thinking about the next level

Perry made demands to Self?

Must have missed that.

Is Jalen Wilson a good defender?
I just realized that I haven't noticed him at all in that end of the court this year. Does that mean he doesn't make mistakes but also isn't great?

He or Silvio is probably the best defensive rebounder we’ve had since T-Rob, so that has to count for something.

That means he plays with 3 elite defenders and we can keep him in favorable positions defensively most of the time. Same goes for Gradey.

Not really with the way they switch though. I mean, that's why Gradey's bad defense is noticeable.

Gradeys D is improving...

its not great, but with his Offense you just can't keep him off the floor.

He needs to clean up the cheap fouls though....we need his offense available. More importantly....we need the threat of his offense on the floor.

My new betting strategy with this team is to wait until we get down and then bet the moneyline as the underdog. Worked like a charm yesterday. When we got down 3 late we went to +104 for a minute or so.

KU's switches and rapid doubles are a risk against the perimeter three. The scheme works well but can be exploited. The whole team can defend, but a lot of time the complexity and effort required to continuously match-up will breakdown. Jalen's and Gradey's minutes sometimes impact the defense. But I am satisfied with that side of the ball. Offensively, KU sees teams that are playing Bill Self's defense more and more. And that sucks.
