A few things:

* Woof, are we paying for barely even trying to develop depth.

* Not concerned about the missed shots, that happens. And we also need to be shooting a lot of threes - we don’t have a big or a guard who can go get buckets.

* For a try-hard, Harris has a very very very bad habit of losing his fucking mind close/late. Losing your dribble and putting the ball within ten feet of Zuby was the one thing you COULD NOT DO at the end of regulation.

* Objectively, that lob to win the game was so, so awesome.

* I really don’t understand how he does it, but Wilson is pretty damn great. If he needs to bring the ball up the floor close/late, let’s just do that.

* The whistles were silly. It’s not good for the game when the best strategy is for guys to go whistle-hunting. And the no-call (baseline out of bounds) at the end of OT was a clear miss.

* College basketball >>> college football. That game was weird and bad and fun as hell. We lost it. And that won’t really matter.

Woof indeed.

Why do you think we've barely tried to develop depth? Bobby and Yes both played extended minutes last night. Clemence Rice Udeh and Zuby have all been given ample opportunities to prove themselves. In practice. And in games. If you suck in practice, and then also suck in the games when you're given a chance, why would you be given more chances on a top 5 team in the country?

Jalen can go get buckets. KJ and DH pick and roll gets buckets.

DH has a long history of being great down the streches of close games. He was bad last night. He also maybe had a concussion. At minimum he got his bell rung.

Not really. That lob only works against the 1 guy on our team who can't dunk.

Agree.

Agree.

For KU yes. In general, both are not great to watch unless you have a rooting interest. NFL and NBA are much more quality on field/court product.

if you mean the players are better/higher quality....sure.

I dont believe its necessarily a better "product" though. But thats all "eye of the beholder" things.

I'm just more disappointed than upset.

For how good Bill has been in end game scenarios for YEARS, last night was not a good night. And it wasn't even like kstate ran the best defense or has the best defenders out there. All year he has relied on a Juan and KJ end game screen and something to come of that. But man, when Wilson was on a heater, as he was last night, you just give it to him and let him go to work. No matter how it gets done. And someone mentioned it here, but if I'm Wilson, I am LIVID with how that played out with him not getting a SINGLE TOUCH on the final possession of regulation or OT.

We see them again in 2 weeks and I bet it's a different story. 5 of next 6 are against top 20 teams. Let your nuts hang, Hawks.

Worth noting, since there are less teams, there are less chances for really bad matchups. College just has so many games, especially college football, where teams are winning by 20+ pts. Totally non competitive. College basketball is way better than college football imo (especially as far as parity goes), but outside of the team I cheer for (KU) and the few teams I cheer against (Duke Mizzou UK Baylor etc) I find most games rather uninteresting. I do like watching the ends of close CBB games though. And lately there have been lots of those for top 25 teams.

Last night in the NBA for example, every game was relatively entertaining and close. 8, 8, 9, 10 were the margins of victory. I used to think the NBA was full of blowouts and no defense being played, but it's not really the case now that I watch a ton of NBA and play nightly NBA DFS.

yea it would be nice to get some depth ready.

we have 4 small guards, but still have to play our starter 43 minutes, and on a night he left the game cuz of a head injury. And the best shooter among the bunch is prob Yesufu, who can't even play on the ball anyway.

and we have 4 scholarship bigs, but not a one looks ready. Heck, the biggest and most highly ranked and greatest upside one hasn't even seen the court in weeks.

and yea, end-game execution and coaching sucked last night too.

but...I'm not that worried? We just lost by a point in OT on the road against a ranked conference pho in the middle of January. That's the kind of loss you can pencil in every year. Still plenty of season left.

"And the best shooter among the bunch is prob Yesufu, who can't even play on the ball anyway."

Don't know why people keep saying this.
His shot might look the most promising, as he gets it off quickly, but he is shooting 39%/31% compared to Dejuan's 47%/41%.
This is after Yes shot 34%/26% last season.

And if the argument is volume: Dejuan has made 4 more 3 pointers than Yesufu on one more attempt.

Mostly back to normal after that one. Was pretty irked by how bad Bill and Juan were in a lot of moments last night. But, takeaway this morning is more, holy cow we really need those two to be good for this team to be good. And they are 85% of the time.

We did shoot poorly from the perimeter, but that's been a red flag all season. We knew this team has weaknesses and no new ones were really exposed last night. Plus, the poor shooting was kind of balanced out by the large amount of FT's that were attempted.

Felt all year that this is a 2-3 seed on talent, but we're putting together a 1-seed resume. Continue to develop the bench, play better next game, and see if we can't hang a Final Four banner. It's a year we can do so.

Dajuan only takes wide open shots, and his recent hot streak may be an outlier (that'd be great if it isn't tho)

Yes is pretty explicitly a shooting guard, right? as in, (in the absence of pg play, or of D, or even of getting to the rim) checks in pretty purposefully to shoot.

what's the volume argument factoring playing time? Dajuan has made 4 more 3 pointers than Yesufu on one more attempt despite playing nearly 3 times the minutes. There may be factors of confidence/short leash effect there too.

and not that I don't like Dajuan, and not that I don't appreciate everything he does do!

We were looking to get the ball to Jalen on the reversals. They were way overplaying him. I don't think Bill lets it get to that point next time. Just give him the ball on the first pass and let him try and win the game. It was kind of similar to taking that timeout. Let him play. Bill almost never calls that timeout. Was weird seeing him overthink things.

but yea, we aren't gonna see 3 starters foul out often, nor are we gonna see many games with 49 fouls and 67 free throws.

It was mentioned in game, but the refs seemed pretty inconsistent, too...in a both ways kinda way. Not blaming the refs.

also, LOL at the crowd-rush-response team with their highlighter yellow vests and crime scene tape cuz the kitties fans have a history of assaulting our players

All good points. I'm hopeful that we can develop a good backup big. Where has Udeh been? Just disappeared. Zuby is a big body but slow feet and Zach has pretty weak hands and also not the most mobile.
Hopeful as well that Yes or Bobby figure it out, soon. Bobby was so bad last night, as he has been most of his time at KU. Yes has a negative assist to turnover ratio this year.

Can't wait for the wave of guards to come in next year.

And also this isn't quite true this season either.
Last night he hit a guarded three at a key moment.

The excuses for Yesufu not hitting his shots ( but he's a good shooter, I swear ) are silly.

He's been a rotation player for 2.5 season. A starter for 1.5 seasons. It's a large sample size.

AND our hall of fame coach has said he is the best outside shooter of our small guards.

Going to be a long day.

To be fair, saw a screenshot this morning of Bill calling a timeout before Yes even passes Wilson the ball. The ref just never heard him.

I noticed this on replay.
Self was calling the timeout closer to 7 seconds than 4-5.

DH has taken 110 3s at KU.

They haven't all been wide open. They haven't all been no pressure mop up time shots.

This failed attempt at trashing DH is so fucking played out. He debunked it. They said as he shot more his %s would go down. He is shooting more this year, inside the arc and outside the arc, and his %s are up in both.

Yes did real well at Drake. That's it. That's the analysis.

Also, we kinda need to mention that, while Dejuan was bad, Kevin McCullar missed multiple two open shots, missed a layup then the free throws that came with it, and fouled out with 0 points, and that Grady Dick went 1-8 from deep.
