Which is more surprising:

- 4 bigs but not one ready to contribute by conference play

- 4 guards but not one who can just go get a bucket or otherwise just make something happen

?

Our bigs is 2 true freshies, something closer to a shooting forward, and Cam ??? KJ has been a pleasant surprise but outta position, and past few games has kinda disappeared

Dajuan is who we knew he is all along. Also kinda worried he ain’t even been the same since he whacked his noggin. Not sure any development shown among Bobby/Yes/Kyle.

I guess I’m kind of on team just throw the bigs out there. MJ too. That’s meltdownish but that’s the thing we’re in the middle of a 3 game loosing streak.

On the bright side, Gradey looked like a much more complete offensive player tonight than he has most of the season. That's not nothing for our long term success.

KJ is a big ( a forward ) and is contributing well this year.

I’d like to see him AND Udeh but then who do you take out?

I forget Cuffe is even on the roster. This might be the thinnest roster Self has ever had.

Sure, our 4 Itty-bitty guards can't score, but keep in mind they are also turnover machines.

I like at how the start of this thread posters were all, “I’ve had enough of DMac. We wouldn’t want him next season. Adams, Udeh etc will be better.”

He was our third best guy last night but yes, if you were to start Udeh and KJ, McCullar would prob be off the bench.

That is bad.
Alas he's our best option.

The slightly scary part is, we're having some issues scoring this season, but what about next when Jalen and Dick are gone? I know we'll likely buy another guy in free agency but we can't pay Dick enough to stay.

one season at a time.

but at this rate, I expect a lot more than just Jalen and Dick to be gone.

for real, we can't play Dajuan 39 a night. That's something we very explicitly knew and discussed going into this year. He's already only good at certain things, and even those things become less good when you run him ragged.

is the solution to just kinda throw Bobby out there for 10 or 15 a night? And as the lone small.

Or, could we do the same with Yes? and just have him/Jalen/KM bring it up by committee.

or heck, should we just put MJ out there and see what happens?

same strategy with our bigs.

...what a honeymoon! Babe, maybe I've just had too many fruity drinks in the sun...think imma go back to the suite and try sleeping this off.

it seems this team lacks enough weapons to not be predictable
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

KM is a nice complimentary piece, and one of the better ones available on the transfer market. It'd be nice if he he (or another transfer) coulda been the answer to our probs, but I don't think anyone was expecting them to be in the first place.

Besides, KM is a wing, when we knew our bigs and guards were the bigger question marks. (well, I think winning a natty with Dajuan as the "starting" guard had a bit of a fool's gold effect that made Self think he really could get BIFM minutes out of Dajuan, never mind the fact that Dajuan's limitations were and are very well known, and that down the stretch last year we relied as much as anyone on Remy)

and our bigs...I had a grim realization last night: know who would like def be starting and playing big minutes on this roster?

Kansas was after Tyrese Hunter but Beard and Texas probably offered him a better contract.

Maybe we could just draw names out of a hat and that's who gets to play? Since we are just wanting to do random shit like "throw MJ in for DH and see what happens".

LOL. The 24hrs following a loss are full of stupid ideas.

Here is a good idea that is realistic and proven to work already by this team: take care of the ball and play good defense.

When we play good defense it can make up for our lack of rebounding.

We we take care of the ball it can help make up for our lack of offensive weapons.

We can't turn it over a ton AND give up a high rate of offensive rebounds to the other team.

All the other stuff (DH not being a Ja/Steph hybrid, KJ not being Embiid, only having 2 competent outside shooters) is not easily fixable this year.

The answer isn't always the guy on the bench. Especially not with this team. Our freshman are raw. They are not a net gain for the TEAM when they go in, no matter how much you focus on their individual abilities (or lack thereof). It's a team sport. This team is all about JW and GD. We go as they go offensively. And defensively we have 3 elite defenders in our starting 5.

When we play well I still think we are the best team in the country.

EVERYONE has glaring flaws this year. There are no truly elite teams.

I would say our flaws are more glaring than teams like Tennessee, Houston or Purdue.

This isn't 2008 where we are trotting out 5 or 6 NBA guys. When we play poorly we can/will lose.

That's partly because we watch KU more.

Houston just lost. At home. As a 19.5pt favorite. We just lost to 3 ranked teams. They probably won't play another ranked team until the NCAA tournament.
