Tang is 56. He chose to come to Manhattan for a reason. I'd be surprised if he leaves at 59 or thereafter. He knows he's loved by his flock. And the tradition of excellence is there for the taking. Huggins once said: why settle for second when first is available?

Tang is a Baylor boy at heart. He will make his way back there once Scott Drew leaves for Kentucky.

And honestly, State shouldn't really want someone whose destination job is State.

"And the tradition of excellence is there for the taking"

Sounds like the delusion is still suffocating.

It wasn't yesterday, but until one Larry Brown came to KU, K-State was a dominate program. Larry and the miracles lost twice to Lonnie's Cats.

Yes, that was 40 years ago and thanks mostly to an era where things were completely different. For a long time, conferences were only allowed to send one team to the tourney. Even longer ago, teams may have preferred to go to the NIT instead of the ncaa tourney. For KSU to harken back to pre-1985 days (the genrally agreed upon beginning of the modern era of ncaa hoops) is just corny. For them to do it by providing completely inaccurate details is just sad.

But congrats to KSU for having a few really good coaches during the one time that KU had a coach who was comparably inconsistent in the performances of the KU basketball team.

This is especially hilarious once you consider how long Huggins stuck around Manhattan

This isn't really an accurate picture. "Danny and the Miracles" finished third (9-5) in the B8 behind K-State (11-3) and OU (12-2). The following year ending the 80s, State finished third, and KU was below .500. It wasn't until the 90s that K-State lost its B8 leadership.

Before Larry Brown here is the count:

KU: 1 National Championship, 6 Final Fours, 37 Conference Championships

Kansas State: 0 National Championships, 4 Final Fours, 17 Conference Championships

The notion that the programs were equal prior to Larry Brown is a sad but hilarious little myth that I've heard you Taters hold onto for the past 20+ years.

I was 5 or 6.
Congrats on being decent back then.

Kansas State has been to 4 Final Fours.

KU made its 5th Final Four in 1971. 52 years ago. That's over 40% of the programs' existences.

Kansas State has won 19 Conference Championships.

KU won its 20th Conference Championship in 1938. That was 85 years ago. Franklin Roosevelt was in his 2nd of 4 Presidential terms.

This is absurd.

How big of a trophy case does it take to display random, irrelevant, cherry-picked stats?

We were talking Big 8/12 not ancient history. All I'm saying is that there was a tradition of excellence in hoops at Manhattan dating back to Mitch Richmond's days. Even Weber won a couple championships and went to the E8. Tang knew that and waited for the opportunity to bring it back which he seems to have done in very short order.

So, cherry picking. Kansas State history major are you?

You were less worse than KU before Larry Brown than you were after Larry Brown.

Congratulations.

Actually, before Larry Brown, K-State was the B8 bell cow. There's no cherry picking. It's what it is, the Big 8. You could do the same in reverse for B8 football, I suppose, before Bill Snyder.
