2022-2023 Lineup
Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
One encouraging thing was seeing Gradey play big yesterday. Since he is constantly being fronted he can clean himself off with picks and passes deep in the lane. But it did jam things up a bit for JW
Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
Well, without calling Yes “at the 1,” how you feel about him being the lone small?CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 9:37 am I don't want Yes at the 1, he's shown no ability there.
He barely, if at all, played there last night. He looked good next to both KM and Harris.
If/when Pettiford spells Dajuan at the 1, I'd rather it be with KM, Dick, and Jalen all in the game.
Which I suppose is maybe more Mc at the 1.
But either way, it’s a matter of spelling Dajuan, and of asking how much we’re getting from Bobby at the 1 or 2 even if healthy
Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
"Dejuan Harris Jr Jr…you mean there’s a Dejuan Harris III?"
Yea, it's Bobby Pettiford Jr.
Yea, it's Bobby Pettiford Jr.
Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
Yes played freely. Keep him comfortable as a 2. There were some Chalmers like over aggressive passes last night, but they balanced out with runouts
Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
I don't particularly like Yes at the 1.
I also don't think KM has done very well at the 1.
I like DH and JW at the one.

Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
McCullar at the "one" is fine for bringing the ball up. Jalen can also bring the ball up.
I don't think either is all that good at initializing sets/making the right pass or driving the ball/attacking the rim from the top of the key.
Yes is good in theory at attacking the rim because of his speed but he's also bound to fuck it up on his way there.

Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
McCullar at the 1 last night was maybe the best backup minutes we've seen all season at that position.
I'm not for putting anything more on Jalen's plate right now.

I agree with every part of thatpdub wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 7:44 am All three of those guys have the highest ceilings for this season and beyond.
They all bring something to the starting lineup that we don't have.
Bobby and Clemence are conservative safe mid.
I like Zuby but I think you try to give Udeh all the extra clock KJ doesn't get.

Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
We need pettiford available for emergency depth. But hopefully don't have to use him
Unless he magically develops a jumpshot in the off-season, I don't think he has the tools to play at this level. He is just too small and shooting is too important

When pettiford is in the game it makes life harder for everyone else on offense. It changes the way teams guard us, because they know he can't shoot and isn't really a threat to do anything

Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
I'm all for mccullar at the back up 1. Especially if yes or jalen are on the floor with him. They can kind of share back up pg duties. Pettiford is too much of a liability to justify him getting playing time just for the sake of bringing the ball up and getting us into our sets. Other players can do thatCrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 10:14 am McCullar at the 1 last night was maybe the best backup minutes we've seen all season at that position.

Here comes randy with four posts in a row about his boy Yes and how much he hates Bobby.randylahey wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 10:27 am When pettiford is in the game it makes life harder for everyone else on offense. Pettiford is not nearly as bad as you make him out to be ( i.e. isn't a threat to do anything yet has a FG% 20 percent better than Yes ) and Yes is not nearly as good as you make him out to be ( 37% from the field, 28% from 3, more turnovers than assists - that's actually pretty bad - not good ).

Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
You're kind of also describing Dajuan, so I think there is a path for Pettiford to play here, it's just pretty narrow, and given our position as a program relative to the rest of the country, I don't think it's something that we will bet on.randylahey wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 10:24 am We need pettiford available for emergency depth. But if he wants to stick it out and try to navigate that path, I'm all for it. The part no one else is bringing up is that he's going to miss at least several games every season with injuries.

Thing is Pettiford and Juan eligibility-wise are the same class unless Pettiford takes a shirt or is granted one for last year

Where's the Yes over Bobby fan club? Because I've been on it since last year.

I've been on Bobby-is-not-good bandwagon all season and most of last season.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 10:56 am Where's the Yes over Bobby fan club? Because I've been on it since last year.
I have never really been on the Yes-is-good bandwagon. It's almost like politics.
Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
Objectively, Yes is by far our most athletic small guard. He’s explosive toward the hoop. He’s so quick in the open court. He even dunked!
Yea he lacks PG skills, but given this team and our personnel available and our need for depth and to manage starter loads, I think there’s def some use for Yes.
I generally like the thought of getting him more looks downhill, rather than using him more as a jump shooter

Re: 2022-2023 Lineup
And yea, considering Bobby is both within the same eligibility window as Dajuan and also skill-wise basically a poor man’s Dajuan….nm
