The thing is, we don't need to back up dajuan with a guy who plays a similar style/role just for the sake of him playing a similar style/role

Pettiford gives us dajuans play style without dajuans strengths and with much bigger weaknesses. Id still prefer to play dajuan as much as realistically possible, and when he is out play point guard by committee (yesefu, mccullar, Wilson all on the floor)

Its offers a change of space and a potential spark

But, unfortunately yesefu has never consistently produced or consistently looked confident. Or we wouldn't still be having this conversation. His lack of confidence has not allowed him to maximize his physical tools. Im disappointed. Never expected a guy like him would have to struggle with confidence when he got here, after already producing on that high a level in the ncaa tournament

Dixon drives me insane but man he is good with defensive plans and adjustments. His offense always lacks just a tad, but his defensive plans and adjustments mid-game are great.

Lots talking about how KU didn't allow a FG over the last like 4 minutes. I think it was 4:19 left on the clock. Our last FG was at the 4:45 mark. A great defensive game plan by two great defensive coaches.

The thing is, we do.
Dejuan can't play 40 minutes.

They way Udeh is playing, it may be neither of Bobby or Yes very often if they don't improve their play. Kj can play the 4 and everyone else can slide down.

We haven't done it, but we absolutely could play KM GD JW KJ and Udeh for 3min a game.

Lampkin was clearly ailing.
He's been a problem for us in the past but he couldn't move well on his leg and had to check out multiple times because of it.
Dejuan did a great job on one of the guys who should be 1st team B12 ( unless the missed games docks him out of there ).

Bobby got 9 minutes last night and 15 prior.
I think he'll be closer to 9 minutes rest of the way, which should be fine.

We only need 1 of Bobby Yes or Rice to play well each night. Doesn't really matter who it is. We just need a handful breather minutes for the starters. Our main 5 can all go 30+ each night.

Yup.
I still think Bobby is best for keeping our offense rolling as is ( i.e. if Dejuan is sitting ).
Yes is good to come in when Dejuan is still in and we are resting ( or sitting bc of foul trouble ) other dudes.

KU doesn't even need them to play well in their limited minutes. They just need to not be terrible. What KU needs is for their starters to play well more consistently.

But we can survive just fine with a backup having his own style and skills. Self can adjust for the limited amount of time it requires. Pettiford is doing fine and will improve as he continues to stay healthy enough to practice and play minutes. Our season does not hinge on his development whatsoever.

Exactly.

For them "playing well" can simply be "staying the fuck out of the way and defend/rebound."

And it's also a false narrative that Yesufu provides significantly more scoring punch. He doesn't.

Yes averages 3.7pts per game.
Bobby averages 2.8pts per game.

Bobby shoots a higher % from 2 and from 3.

His peaks and strengths are noticeably higher, when it comes to scoring, than Bobby, but yes, because of the extreme valleys Yes has, he's not consistently providing any scoring punch.

If we win our next 2, then very likely you can tank that tourney.
Self won't though.

No we don't. We don't need udeh to come in and play exactly the same way kj Adam's does. We didn't remy to come in and play exactly the way dajuan does.

Putting in rice or yesefu instead of Bobby gives us a different look, makes us harder to guard. Pettiford makes us much easier to guard

Point guard is different - especially with the way Dejuan dictates things this season.
Yesufu just cannot cut it there.

Pettiford just doesn't fit on a high caliber college team at this point in his career, because he is small and cannot shoot. He's a decent ball handler and finisher inside, if he was bigger he could be effective at that, but he is too small to depend on that alone. Without the ability to shoot and keep the defense honest, it makes his drives WAY easier to guard. He's a decent defender fundamentallly, but is undersized so can't really rely on that either.

Pettiford is NOT a lost cause. If he develops a jumpshot he could turn into a nice player. But its a glaring weakness for player with his size/tools

It would be one thing if he never turned the ball over, but he tends to have a bad turnover or 2 almost every game, plus routinely gets scored over due to his size

His shooting %'s are better than Yesufus.
Yesufu is also small.
Yesufu's A/TO ratio is worse than Bobby's.
