Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
What is interesting to me, but not surprising, is that one side so badly wants it to be a lab leak, while the other side so badly wants it to have come from an animal.
I don't think we will ever know the truth. China isn't going to dislose anything they don't want to disclose. If they want to hide the origins or mislead, then they will.
Personally, at this point, it doesn't make much difference to me where it originated. I don't think we will ever have indisputable evidence either way.

Not sure I'm saying anything you're not, but - by and large, the "lab leak" folks seem to want it to be true not for any substantive reason as pertaining to virology or prevention/mitigation or research or whatever. They want it to be true because it would let them wear their isolationist costumes, and take their broader global conspiracy theories out for a walk.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 11:53 am What is interesting to me, but not surprising, is that one side so badly wants it to be a lab leak, while the other side so badly wants it to have come from an animal.

I think it's incredibly important to understand how this happened. I don't think any serious person would say that either the zoonotic OR the lab leak provenance is implausible. I don't think any serious person would say that a combination of those provenances is implausible.

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
The lab leak theory folks are almost all republicans. They want it to be a lab leak so they can tell the Dems they were wrong. The Dems don't want the Pubs to be correct, so they have taken the other side. Like always.jfish26 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 11:57 amNot sure I'm saying anything you're not, but - by and large, the "lab leak" folks seem to want it to be true not for any substantive reason as pertaining to virology or prevention/mitigation or research or whatever. Just a totally fucked up political environment in our country right now.
My uncle died from covid, a healthy in shape 60 something year old. He died because he wasn't going to take some vaccine the Dems were pushing on him to take. Dumb. It cost him his life.

you’re just choosing to see it alternatively
there are folks on either side of the aisle, and those with no political dog in the fight, that are following the data
your “two sides” both contain people that aren’t following the actual data

I think if the Dems were pushing the lab leak theory than nearly all republicans would take the other side.jfish26 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 12:05 pmI agree.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 12:03 pmThe lab leak theory folks are almost all republicans. Sure, absolutely. The Rs' animating desire is owning the libs.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 12:08 pmI think if the Dems were pushing the lab leak theory than nearly all republicans would take the other side.jfish26 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 12:05 pmI agree.BasketballJayhawk wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 12:03 pm

You're seeing it now with the SVB stuff - the Rs are jamming it through the "wokeness" nonsense, because absolutely everything right now must be put into culture war terms.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
every morning that i get up. brush my teeth. have a shower. go off to work. by that alone. for that day. i have owned almost very lib that i know.
owning the libs ain't that hard to do.

Yes...the repubs are focused almost solely on "owning the libs" in many areas.
But....as demonstrated here and throughout the country...a large chunk of the Dems are driven to showcase their intelligence and "prove" how dumb the repubs are....and will go beyond reasonable lengths and expend entirely too much effort on making that point.
Everything has become team sports and its fucking terrible, wrong, and strangling our country.
Just Ledoux it

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Yes, I am an asshole/moron and yes I am the common denominator but.......
I'm not the sick one breathing on others.
I'm the one with pre-existing health issues, as well as someone who cares for an elderly parent, and shows up to work preferring not to get sick, wishing that others who don't give a fuck would show an ounce of caring and respect for their fellow co-workers.
Sorry if I feel I have the right to bitch about that, and I would expect and understand if people felt the same as I do if they were in the same situation/s.
