I've always thought Gov Abbott has it in for you.

If I agree with you, can we stop talking about it? Yes, a reviewing entity would be assigning a title based on some agreed upon analysis of available info and metrics and that would be the same in both scenarios.jfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 10:45 amWhat is the difference between the Helms banners - which reflect the only real outside validation of who was the best team in 1922 and 1923 - and a recognition that...the only real outside validation of who was the best team in 2020, validates Kansas?ramjet wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 10:09 am"Since the NCAA tournament that still exists today made its first appearance in 1939, other organizations were relied on to name the national champions of the years prior, and thus the Helms Athletic Foundation took initiative with the sole creditor of the champions from 1904 to 1937, awarded to the Jayhawks in 1922 and 1923".https://www.kansan.com/sports/1922-23-t ... 49b43.htmljfish26 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 9:07 am
So you'd feel warm and fuzzy about it if, I don't know, 65 AP writers and 32 coaches had, like, voted on this?
I think it's silly, and small, that we claim the Helms titles. But the logic behind claiming them, and the logic of us treating 2020 the same way as we treat 1922 and 1923, are of a piece.
I think the Helms banners are legit, and I think claiming the title for 2020 is bullshit. My original comment on the kitties was a pimp on all the proclamations that the staties have made and have been ridiculed on these boards and the preceding boards.
To, again, be clear: I'm not saying we SHOULD do this. I think it's petty and insecure and small.
But it's driving me nuts that anyone thinks there's a difference in the underlying reasoning. There's just not. They would all three be "self-declared" or "mythical" national championships, based on what outsiders declared/voted on.
If you want to say that two zebras are horses, I don't agree with you. Zebras are zebras, and horses are horses. But if two zebras over here are horses, then so's that donkey over there.

meh, the tournament rarely results in the best team winning whereas Helms and 2020 recognize a body of work. what is a "champion"?twocoach wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 3:24 pmIf I agree with you, can we stop talking about it? In college basketball a champion is someone who wins the NCAA tournament. Currently.

booo...
I mean, I'm all for him getting the rest he needs. And I wouldn't trade him next year for one game this year. But I do think we miss him on the bench.

Dajuan in particular plays better when Bill is Coaching.
Although, perhaps they can use this as motivation....gotta get to next weekend so Bill can Coach. Can't end his season for him.

Bill's interview with Gurley before the Howard game was pretty telling; he sounded winded and a bit fragile...which is to be expected, I would imagine.

no idea what kind of recovery that sort of procedure entails, but i wonder if the “day-to-day” status is about more than just his health
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
