Re: Charges
Whatever amount of wealth Trump actually has, is less than what he says he has.
That psychological defect - that deep and intractable insecurity - is at the heart of everything with him.
(I remain fairly confident that, broadly, what really happened here has a whole lot to do with a marriage of convenience between Trump (who needed liquidity, and had real estate) and Russian (and other Eastern European) oligarchs (who needed a laundromat, and had liquidity).)

Re: Charges
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Charges
One of the things that people don't understand is that much of his wealth (prior to the White House, when he was claiming a net worth of roughly $10b) was based on the speculative value of the name "Trump." (Trump Casino, Trump Towers, etc.) If I recall correctly, the value of the name was estimated at around $7b, which means that even if everything else he claimed has accurate and legit, he was only ever worth about 30% of what he claimed.
And obviously, that $7b is closer to 0 today.

I think most of US understood that, but the rubes like to appoint to trumps numbers and say it proves he is a genius. The important term is "net" worth. If I borrowed a billion dollar$, would I be a billionaire?DCHawk1 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 12:40 pmOne of the things that people don't understand is that much of his wealth (prior to the White House, when he was claiming a net worth of roughly $10b) was based on the speculative value of the name "Trump." And this is also the heart of why we have things like election contribution laws, and laws against falsifying tax and insurance and banking documents, and why candidates for office provide tax returns.
If you or I sought a security clearance for very ordinary course shit, the government would want to know if we are financially compromised (or susceptible to being financially compromised).
Whatever "net worth" Trump wants Forbes to say he has...he's not liquid for it. Not remotely close.

Hey, damn you that's Randall's hero you are talkin bout! That's hilarious. Trump has made millions ripping off US citizens who did work for Trump only to receive pennies on the dollar owed to them if anything. Trump's ego has needed what he got out of politics for nearly his entire adult life. The power, the adulation. He has always needed that.randylahey wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 2:17 pm Biden is a career politician whos gotten filthy rich off the backs of the American people. Thats the guy you trust?
Trump aint clean either. But far less dirty than biden. Trump never needed politics. Hes actually the only president in decades that actually lost money by going into politics

How do we know you're not just jealous 'cause you'll never be able to afford a $130,000 piece of ass?

Imagine the first domino to fall in a series of prosecutions reasonably likely to result with you dying in prison...relates to you having paid a woman you now call "horseface" $130,000 to NOT tell people that you had sex with her.
Re: Charges
That reminds me of not too long after he became president, I heard Trump criticizing one of his administration members, and I thought I must have misheard him, because calling them incompetent along with a string of other insults, would only make him look bad for lacking good judgement by hiring them in the first place.
Silly me.

Meanwhile...
Oh yeah, this:
3/21/23 Trump loses last bid to keep key evidence out of rape trial
Former President Donald Trump’s effort to keep key evidence out of his civil rape trial next month was rejected by a federal judge Monday.
Judge Lewis A. Kaplan in Manhattan ruled that key witnesses will be allowed to testify and misogynistic remarks Trump made about women in 2005 when he apparently didn’t realize he was being recorded can be played for a jury that will hear quarter-century-old rape allegations made by a former magazine columnist.
A trial in the case filed by E. Jean Carroll is scheduled to start April 25. Carroll and Trump are expected to testify.
Carroll said in a 2019 memoir that she was raped by Trump in the mid-1990s in a dressing room at Bergdorf Goodman, an upscale Manhattan department store. She said a chance encounter filled with lighthearted banter turned violent when they entered a small room while teasing one another about who would try on a piece of lingerie.
Trump has repeatedly insisted he never met Carroll at the store and that he didn’t know who she was. During an October deposition, he misidentified a decades-old photograph of her as one of his ex-wives.

While I tend, I think, to see the seamier side of Biden more than most posters here, his accumulation of wealth is pretty straightforward: an $8 million book deal, seven-figure speaking fees, etc. Sure, it's "corrupt," but it's corrupt in the sense that the whole system is corrupt. Reagan may have been the last president/VP who didn't get filthy rich AFTER office.twocoach wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 1:31 pmThat's hilarious. He hates everyone who ever worked for him that either got caught being a sleazeball or got sick of Trump being a sleazeball and called him out for it. It just seems like it is all of them because of how frequently both have occurred.DCHawk1 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 4:30 pmHe HATES everyone who ever worked form him. Biden is "filthy" rich? You guys have a pretty low bar for "filthy", it makes me feel fucking dirty just talking about it. He had $2.5M net worth at age 74 ( barely soiled if you ask me) and added another $5.5M on book deals and speaking engagements later.DCHawk1 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 4:29 pmWhile I tend, I think, to see the seamier side of Biden more than most posters here, his accumulation of wealth is pretty straightforward: an $8 million book deal, seven-figure speaking fees, etc. Sure, it's "corrupt," but it's corrupt in the sense that the whole system is corrupt. Good for him. I'll bet he didn't demean hisself and sit in no god damn slouchy chairs to get that extra money. If you know someone who wants to pay me $5M for my life story give them my number, I'll be happy to talk to them. Hell I'll even sit in a god damn slouchy muthafuckin chair for 30 minutes for $5M.
