So, I'm in KC for the weekend, should I give Whatabuger a shot? There's one really close to the hotel.

Try The Russell on Main, they have a great burger and a steak chimi. Wherever you are staying it will be worth the drive.

You should give it a shot if you're short on time and are fine with what in my opinion is an average burger and average accompaniments.

Speaking of KC and whata....

I prefer Whataburger over In N Out but not over Shake Shack.
Get Town Topic if you’re in KC and looking for that type of burger.

Don’t know if it’s a quality control issue or what, but I’ve never found Whataburger to be any better than Sonic.

I think the top 3 fast-ish food cheeseburgers are…

In N Out
Shake Shack
Smashburger

(No, not a big Five Guys fan, relatively speaking.)

I eat so little at these places and I imagine each place is so differently run it’s tough to actually know what their average burger is like.

I’ve been to In N Out twice and Whataburger maybe five-six times.

I'm the exact opposite. TYPICALLY, I prefer In N Out over Whata and Shake Shack. But.....
As I used to (and still) say about Five Guys, there are often very noticeable inconsistencies between franchises.
For example......
I have had terrible Five Guys burgers in Lincoln Park and good Five Guys burgers on Michigan Ave.
Shack Shack at 54th & Lexington in NYC is/was outstanding. Shake Shack on Ohio in Chicago is garbage.

Back to Top 3 in your/my city......

Top 3 WORST current construction areas.

1. The Kennedy Expressway.
2. Michigan Avenue between Grand and Oak.
3. Whatever my neighbors were doing in their apartment last night. Sounded like they were purposely smashing a bookcase against the wall. Repeatedly. For about 15-20 minutes.

Mom is in the hospital and I won't get too far from St Joe. Saw one close to my hotel last night. I may need to try it just to say I did.

Had in n out once. Ok I guess. I don't see the hype.

Sorry to hear/read about your mom! Hope she will be ok!
I don't get the In N Out hype either but I do appreciate that it's cheap - and it serves its purpose to/for me well.
Hey, I say be Mikey and go to Whataburger. You just might like it.

I haven't been to any of these places since probably 2013 so I ain't no expert.
In fact, from what I remember, you used to get whatever toppings on your Whataburger for free - and now I see they charge for extras--meh, that was part of the charm.

Sorry about your mom. I can never remember hospital names. Is that one in plaza area? If so, Westport flea market is a good burger. Cash onlyz

St Joe, 435 and State Ln

I was headed to Whatabuger for lunch but there's a Burger Fi right outside of the hotel so I went there.
Meh, burger was ok, I guess. Mostly bun. Fries were fresh cut and hot but limp and not really very good.
20 bucks for a buger, fries, and iced tea. Double meh.

That’s normal everywhere now. For this reason, I think we should be able to put ‘me’ on top 3 now.

It's honestly become cheaper to go to a sit down spot and get a burger there.
Burger and fries plates like 12 to 15 bucks.
Get a beer for 5-6 bucks and you're already ahead.

we kick ourselves whenever we decide to just grab something quick…$20-30 without fail

money wasted “going out” to eat. shoulda just actually gone out to eat and sat down somewhere
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

The fried cheese curds are definitely delicious. I think their burgers play to affinity for the crusty edges.
