We might expect such craven behavior by people like Ted Cruz, Marjorie Taylor Green, or Kevin McCarthy. But it's painful to watch people you used to respect and consider reasonable, someone you took for granted you could work with toward common goals, publicly demonstrate such fealty to someone so unworthy. Someone who is the manifestation and embodiment of all the character flaws our parents warned us about, like Donald Trump. WTAF!?

I'm less of a Garland skeptic than most. I don't think there's anything wrong with slow moves, necessarily.

The wire fraud/RICO angle is a very interesting one. While it's not as made-for-TV as "try to overthrow democracy --> die in prison," it's probably significantly easier to get a conviction on than a more esoteric obstruction of justice or like charge (whether tied to the 1/6 vote count, or to the Mar a Lago documents).

The thesis of the criminal conduct is easy to explain to a jury: King Griftalot, knowing he lost, grifted rubes on false claims (and for a "legal defense fund" that never existed).

Garland, imo, is the dog being wagged by the tail, multiple tails, in NYC, Georgia, and by the House Jan 6 committee. He has a finite amount of time, and while he must be very careful for numerous reasons, if we are all the same under the law, what is he waiting on? And, to no one's surprise, Trump is already pushing the prohibition against coming at a "candidate" by the DOJ "rule".

I think you have to assume that, even in DC, a jury will have at least one rube-curious person. I would guess that it will be a lot easier to persuade that person with what amounts to a conman story (where the victims are folks), than a criminal offense (however serious) regarding procedural matters (where the victim is the gubmint*).

* Of course, the real victim of obstruction of justice and like crimes is...the people. But we're really in the weeds here.
