2023-2024 lineup
Re: 2023-2024 lineup
I would rather have McCullar back than almost any of the players currently in the portal...especially the guys at his same position.
Re: 2023-2024 lineup
If we’re in a position we can afford to have sophomore Udeh off the bench, that means an awful talented 5 came in.
And also means an awful lot of lobs against other team’s 2nd units

Yes. Mccullar. The 3 and d guy is mccullar, there isn't a better 3 available in the portalMjl wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 11:24 amYeah, Jackson will back up Juan and play next to him too some.UnholyLivingDead wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 11:10 amGoing into the offseason, my wishlist was a big, a couple of shooters, and a PG. Getting McCullar back wouldn't change much of that in my mind. But with our combo guard recruits coming in, it probably lessons the need for a backup ballhandler for Harris.
Ideal to me would get Dickinson and Cryer and a 6'5"-6'7" 3-and-D wing.
Juan
Cryer
3nD wing
KJ
Dickinson
Jackson and Udeh main players off the bench.
That's a top three team.

Re: 2023-2024 lineup
I like it. There are some wings in the portal that would fit there, assuming McCullar isn't back which I personally don't see happening but Bill left the door open yesterday. Hakim Hart from Maryland or Harrison Ingram from Stanford come to mind. Spencer Jones from Stanford is another but it doesn't sound like he's entered the portal just yet. Another guard would still be nice to have too with the likes of Primo and Timberlake visiting Lawrence.Mjl wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 11:24 amYeah, Jackson will back up Juan and play next to him too some.UnholyLivingDead wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 11:10 amGoing into the offseason, my wishlist was a big, a couple of shooters, and a PG. Zuby doesn't strike me as anything more than a career backup, which is not something I worry about losing. He is very replaceable.randylahey wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 9:50 am Id hate to lose zuby if we get Dickinson. Wonder how patient and committed to KU he would be. Best case scenario is getting Dickinson and zuby being content with a redshirt

Re: 2023-2024 lineup
Hes gonna be a beast by junior/senior year. Hes replaceable sure, but I'd like to keep him around. Those program guys are a big deal still. You would've said the same thing about dajuan harris after his freshman yeartwocoach wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 12:34 pmZuby doesn't strike me as anything more than a career backup, which is not something I worry about losing. Re: 2023-2024 lineup
Twocoach maybe a good comparison for zuby would he Darnell Jackson. Similar prospect coming out of high school, similar skillets. After Darnell's freshman season you probably didn't care if he transfered either. But he stuck around and look how that played out. Those 4 year role players are still important

Similar skillets…you mean like beef and potato or something?
As for Zuby, I think a lot depends on whether he shows any progress next year.
But yea, he might be career backup, in which case his comparison is prob Landen Lucas. That dude would have never been starting, but for injuries, and the F the NCAA thread.

Zuby is more Jamari Traylor than Landen Lucas.
Zuby is athletic.
Lucas was not.

I think Zuby is going to be awesome if he sticks around. Strong, athletic, nose for the ball, pretty quick.

Re: 2023-2024 lineup
If zuby is a career back up, it means we have a stacked front court his whole career here. Hes going to be a damn good college player eventually. And hopefully at ku. If he transfers, it won't be to be a back up somewhere else
Re: 2023-2024 lineup
I think the ceiling is high for Zuby. He just needs a little maturity and a summer with Nijem cracking the whip.
Re: 2023-2024 lineup
Yes, let's develop our players. He's gonna be good.
Worried we have too much of a grass us greener mentality.
We had almost the same roster in 22 as in 21...the difference was a year of maturity for our players.

Well that, and we went out and found ourself a guard who could just go get it.
Re: 2023-2024 lineup
Remy played 21 mpg. He was great, and a huge addition. But he was 6th or 7th on that team. The offseason improvement of Och and Braun, and the late season emergence of Mac and Harris were bigger factors to that team's success.
Keep adding pieces, but players improve, there's value in continuity, chemistry, and system familiarity.

agree, as Mac came up big in the tourney run, so did Remy as the change of pace spark plug. Especially as the team climbed the ladder boardPhDhawk wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 9:55 pm Remy played 21 mpg. KM to declare, but maintain eligibility
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: 2023-2024 lineup
This is really what we lacked this season. We didn't have the quality 6th or 7th that Remy was. Another upper-classman with skills and savvy. They are out there, but it's a rare freshman who can provide that and it's a crap-shoot on whether one of yours will be that. Gradey was one of those rare ones but we didn't have enough threats to put around him to ease defensive focus off him.PhDhawk wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 9:55 pm Remy played 21 mpg. As a side note, Sanogo showed once again the value of having an offensively skilled big who can also protect the rim on D.
