wasn't there also recently a story about Clarence Thomas blocking a subpoena for Lindsey Graham to have to testify? I think about elections in Goergia or sumptin.

The SCOTUS is basically a political wing of the Theocracy which itself is masquerading as a political party

We have the best Supreme Court "conservative" republican, Federalist Society money, can buy.

Clarence Thomas and the Billionaire

Island-hopping on a superyacht. Private jet rides around the world. The undisclosed gifts to Thomas have no known precedent in the modern history of the Supreme Court. “It’s incomprehensible to me that someone would do this,” says one former judge.

Color me surprised:

Supreme Court rejects West Virginia bid to enforce sports ban against transgender girl

A lower court had prevented the state from enforcing a law against 12-year-old Becky Pepper-Jackson that prevents transgender girls from participating in girls’ sports...

Alabama and 20 other states filed a brief backing West Virginia, as did various female athletes, including tennis star Martina Navratilova...

Begs the question: What will republicans agree to rage about instead?

Something that’s positively WILD about this Thomas stuff is just how conspicuous it was, and yet.

“I don’t have any problem with going to Europe, but I prefer the United States, and I prefer seeing the regular parts of the United States. I prefer the RV parks. I prefer the Walmart parking lots to the beaches and things like that. There’s something normal to me about it. I come from regular stock, and I prefer that — I prefer being around that.”

Thomas made these statements in a documentary financed in part by Crow, the very man who flies him around the world to exclusive resorts and other luxury venues.

The thing we have to understand is that Clarence being a Catholic and a Yale Law School grad, does not have the internal moral or ethical compass to decide by hisself if these things should be disclosed. So he relied on the advice of trusted advisors and they told him to keep his yap shut. Clarence is good about keeping his yap shut.

In the future if he absolutely has been advised to, he will disclose this stuff.

He is just an average Clarence driving his motorhome into a Walmart parking lot and trying to obey the law.

This is the spiritual cousin to the "white collar cowboy" cosplay that infuriates me. Lawyers and bankers and doctors and so on, who dress up in Carhartts and Ariats and drive gigantic pickups, all to sort of play at being men (it's always men) of the people.

[Hopefully it goes without saying - I'm not criticizing, AT ALL, white collar professionals who actually ARE farmers/ranchers/builders/outdoorsmen/handy/salt-of-the-earth types. I'm criticizing people who dress up as that in order to win unearned credibility as something they're NOT.]

The arrogance is breathtaking - your job is to literally BE the top of the judgment pyramid. This isn't an issue where there should be ANY room for hiding behind others' advice or counsel.

You wouldn't see, for example, the medical chair of the oncology department at Johns Hopkins say that, on advice of his personal physician, it's fine for him to smoke six packs a day.
