Another mass shooting
Re: Another mass shooting
Voting matters. The Supreme Court has a hand in the NRA till too.
Re: Another mass shooting
One of the truly confounding things is that 1/3 of the country more or less sees gun laws as PERMISSION structures: who am I allowed to shoot, when, and with what.twocoach wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 2:39 pm1) mass shooting happensjfish26 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 1:44 pmAnd again - just so we're being 100% clear - no serious person is seeking a comprehensive ban on guns.KUTradition wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 1:21 pm the freedom to play G.I. Joe, basically, outweighs the freedom to live, go to school, go to the store, etc. without fear of being murdered
We just keep getting told, over and over again, some combination of: (1) the Second Amendment guarantees a present-day right to buy, own and use assault rifles, (2) there would not actually be any utility to "contracting" otherwise (by our elected representatives codifying restrictions on the buying, owning and using of assault rifles).
2) Dems call for restrictions on the ability of disturbed people with ill intentions to not be able to buy AR15s and high capacity magazines so easily
3) GOPs scream about Dems trying to take away their guns/ban all gun sales
4) Conversation dissolves into stupidity
5) Repeat steps 1-4 every few weeks for what seems like it will be the rest of eternity

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Another mass shooting
Right. The number one sited reason for owning a firearm is personal protection. Which to me seems reasonable. But that's because I assume that personal protection means self defense, like literally, someone is trying to kill you and you use the weapon as a last resort. But then you find out that personal protection might mean protecting someone else's property as a justifiable reason to kill someone and then you realize not everyone is having the same conversation.

Yeah. The failure to pass laws that clarify that you don’t get to use self-defense as an affirmative defense if you put yourself into the situation…is quite a tell!PhDhawk wrote: ↑Mon Apr 17, 2023 3:55 pm Right. Re: Another mass shooting
I wonder how long before Person A sees Person B carrying a firearm in the open in a State where it’s permitted, shoots Person B, and claims self defense or standing ground!
Re: Another mass shooting
It depends on whether we will have yet reached the Magical Gun Equilibrium (being that special state of balance where there are exactly the right number of guns, such that gun violence is no more).

GOOD GUY WITH GUNS ALERT
Re: Another mass shooting
Classic case of personal protection to me. What, now you're gonna tell me you can't defend your driveway with deadly force?
And why wasn't she carrying? Nothing would be safer than for her to have returned a couple rounds.

If everyone has guns, then no one will shoot anyone. That's how it works, right?

Just wild to me that we will go to any length, spare no expense, to solve this problem…except by addressing the SINGLE biggest contributor to the problem.
