Percentages are used here to illustrate that murder rates are higher in right-leaning states than in left-leaning states. This is like saying, which is also true, that Covid mortality rights are higher in right-leaning states than in left-leaning states.
Of course, we also disagree about whether the gross (counting number) figures are acceptable results, or not.
