Oh, and speaking of Afghanistan…

U.S. officials have also briefed Ukraine on the dangers of overextending its ambitions and spreading its troops too thin — the same warning Biden gave then-Afghan President Ashraf Ghani as the Taliban moved to sweep across the country during the U.S. military withdrawal in 2021.

just out of curiosity, who exactly is “they” in that meme?
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Does this mean that…Budweiser has infringed on Thiel’s free speech? Or that Thiel’s free speech is infringing on Trump’s? I’m very confused.

Peter Thiel, Venture catastrophist:

...Libertarianism, the political philosophy of a 19-year-old who’s just discovered Ayn Rand...

...By Friday morning it was over, and the feds had arrived to turn on the lights and close the bar. While they were working over the weekend to ring-fence the contagion and make SVB’s depositors whole, a new species of venture capitalist was born on Twitter: the Venture Catastrophist. The fear mongering’s stated intention was to drum up support for a federal bailout of SVB depositors — many of whom were the Catastrophists themselves.

There are no libertarians in foxholes.

...In sum, venture capital firms that have a vested interest in destabilizing the banking system and the dollar, via crypto investments, have morphed from Americans to agents of chaos. I believe Marc Andreessen or Peter Thiel could have stopped the run with one tweet. They chose not to...

Isn’t a tankie someone who supports military intervention? specifically in the sense of when Stalin sent in Soviet forces to quash a fascist uprising in Hungary

DC strikes me more as just some realist who actually remembers things like Afghanistan (which ended embarrassingly, all of 6 months before the Ukraine war broke out, and was regarded at the time as some ding to the credibility of the US war machine); rather than abandoning any lessons that could have been learned from Afghanistan et al, in favor of doubling down on US war machine credibility and embracing the prescribed narratives about Ukraine.

But, I could be wrong. Feel free to correct me.

And, I promise I’m not trying to shitpost or to troll or anything in saying so…

And, in an effort to not get too war thready and to make it relevant here:

Does that Politico article seem to suggest Biden is concerned about what the whole Ukraine thing might do for him, or against him, in 2024?

Sounds like it largely kinda depends on how well Ukraine’s counter-offensive goes this spring…

DC believes that successful foreign/military policy requires both phronesis AND sophia.

DC also believes that those two virtues have been inarguably absent from nearly all foreign policy debates and acts for 35 years or so.

"They" is the Uniparty -- the Bushes, the Cheneys, the Bidens, the Clintons, and the rest, who have never met a war they didn't want everyone else's kids to fight.

Serious question. Isn’t part of reason the US is so apt to find conflict is due to the economic machine in DC being funded, in great part, by the war machine?

Maybe pay attention to the thing being said instead of just the person saying it for once in your life lol. This is play #1 out of the liberal playbook. Brainwashing people into discrediting the person, attacking them personally, then it doesn't matter what they ever say

Don't know Joey personally, just thought his one tweet and found it funny.

Maybe he's the smart one. Life long democrat that flipped. Despite what they have brainwashed you to believe, Trump is a decent person
