I worked with one of the guys who runs that account.

Doesn’t change the fact that I think Midjourney and Stable Diffusion is shitty for the art and creative world.

This article does a good job summing up what I was trying to explain earlier:

A connection I have in LinkedIn lost one of his clients to ChatGPT. The client was transparent. It was cheaper than a 80/hr rate and while maybe not as good, was good enough.

This is very cool:

But I do concept boards and animation for part of my job so it’s not cool.

I believe this technology will also apply to coding sites and applications where developers will become less and less needed.

Such a change from previous innovations, where before it seems the victims were lower income unskilled workers, but now due to AI, it's mainly the opposite.

I know there was some smirking in there with that comment.

As TDub has mentioned, I probably belong in your generation, where creativity wasn't being replaced by machines owned by the few.

I give it 5 or so years before Adobe, Google and Apple have subscription based services where word prompts will build good enough for clients and former artists and developers will fight for scraps to touch those up or fix bugs, using their proprietary software of course. Things will largely look the same ( as Squarespace is full well spreading ) but that won't matter to many.

On top of that, what's motivating for art and design students today?
Should they be learning design theory? Should they learn to draw?
Or should they learn how best to prompt A.I. to generate something for them?

I thought this point was super interesting, not just because of the point itself... but it's the fact that it describes also how social media rots people's brains.

AI may just end up trapped in the same algorithm where it's just looking for information that it already believes, consuming the bullshit it already thinks. Yes, I'm a bit high.

Are you referring to this "comment":

If not, sorry, but endeavor to be more precise.

If so, you're wrong.

In general I eschew the replacement of people by "machines", within reason. Which, for instance, is why I don't use "self-checkout" when given a choice, because it makes me feel like I'm contributing to someone losing their job.

Ah.
I thought by #lifeoutofbalance you meant that finally the skilled workers were suffering. About time.

I do the same if the checkout line with a person there is empty or has just one person in front of me.

I regret not being sufficiently "precise".

There’s an irony to “unskilled workers,” considering the term was coined by evil rich people who can’t even make their own cup of coffee in the morning.

And I shared this story a while back, but the local grocery store here has told me that, even when there’s a line of customers waiting, they can’t open the self-checkouts, cuz they don’t have enough staff on schedule to do so.

Pretty sure they have to be monitored

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

I was courageous yesterday.
I'm not a copywriter but have to write a script for a 60 second spot ( no budget yet ).
I was very slightly tempted to just head to chatGPT or the sort to prompt it for the initial draft but then thought ohhellno.

If/when the budget comes through, i'll hire a copywriter to spruce it up.

Am I the only person on the planet who routinely considers "is my job at risk of being eliminated or replaced by a cheaper alternative?"

Our economy will either focus on people and new ways to share an automated future or make massive amounts of Soylent Green.
